| | How do I delete "moved" files? I am running Vista Home Prem and recently purchased a Seagate FreeaAgent Go drive to use as some extra storage. For some reason I could not (after hours of help with the Seagate help desk) get My Documents folder to sync. The folders were there but none of them contained any files. I moved the My Documents folder directly onto my "C" drive. I cut and pasted the folder then renamed it. For some reason everytime I do search for my files that were located in the My Documents folder they come up in both the new location "C" drive and in the C\Users\Anthony\Documents\... I try to delete the returned search results that show the files in My Documents but an error comes up and says that the files have been moved. I have tried repasting them then deleting them, but it does not work. |

| | Re: How do I delete "moved" files? Hi, Anthony. There is a "My Documents" folder in WinXP, but not in Vista. There IS a "Documents" folder, probably several of them. Look in the Users folder and in the multiple subfolders for "All Users", "Default", etc., and one you may have named "Anthony" or some other name of your choice. Each of these subfolders should have a "Documents" folder. The folder name "My Documents" remains in Vista only as a "Junction" pointing to the new C:\Users\<userid>\Documents folders. I'm surprised (and disappointed) that the Seagate help desk was not aware of this changed structure in Vista. RC -- R. C. | | Re: How do I delete "moved" files? Thanks RC, But I am sorry, I made a mistake in what I said, thanks for catching that for me. I had my files saved in the "Documents" folder under my profile. Once I moved them to the newly created FreeAgent Sync folder that I created directly on my C drive I still search results saying that the documents that I moved are still in the "Documents" folder. I try to click on them and it says that they have been moved and that I need to create them, that or that they can't be deleted. I feel the same as you do about Seagate, they were nice, but I need the stuff to work first. I can't sync any files that are in the C:\Users\Anthony\Documents folder. Not sure what else to do. i have tried defraging the drive, everything that I can but the search results keep returning results that are not there. Thanks for anything else you could add. Anthony "R. | | Re: How do I delete "moved" files? Hi, Anthony. We're getting a bit out of my territory here. I never "sync" anything except for Synchronize All here in OE/WM/WLM. ;^} But it sounds like your complaint may be more about Vista's Search than about Sync-ing anything. Several users have complained that Search still shows hits that have already been deleted. Dave Wood [MSFT] and others have pointed out that Vista's Indexing Service works only in the background so that we can continue with our other activities in the foreground without too much slowdown or interruption. The trade-off for this is that the Index will not always be up to the minute, especially after a large "Move" session. It might take a few days for the Indexing Service, working only in the background, to include the new locations and remove the old ones. In the meantime, it will "find" them in both places. You can either be patient while the Indexing Service catches up with what you've done, or you can force it to Rebuild your Index now - which might tie up your computer for a while. Go to Control Panel | Indexing Options | Advanced to see your choices. If I've misunderstood your problem, please post back and someone more familiar with Sync should be able to help you. RC -- R. C.
