Hi Doug,
Give this a try:
1. Open Folder Options
Folder Options
2. Check (dot) "Show hidden files and folders".
3. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files..."
A) Click Yes to "Are you sure".
4. Click Apply.
5. Delete the pics from the desktop again.
6. Delete all "desktop.ini" files on the desktop.
7. Empty the Recycle Bin.
8. Reverse the Folder Option settings you just changed and click Ok.
9. Restart the computer to see if they are gone now.
