Re: "FILE OR FOLDER DOES NOT EXIST"

Sadly this does not fix it on my machine. Lemme explain something different in my situation. This error ONLY occurs with network files (Desktop folder redirection, or network shares). I have ownership (in the case of the desktop redirection exclusive access) and am member of the administrators account.

Local files are no problem at all. With the exception of a weird folder rename problem with permissions even tho I own the folder/files in question, but that is for another thread as it only happens with dvddecryptor....

**** OK Well after some more digging I noticed that there was an error concerning the Offline Files service:
(The Offline Files service terminated with the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.)

So I disabled Offline files and the problem went away, Offline files NEVER worked anyway so no big.

Just thought I would add that as something to check if your still having issues...

Re: "FILE OR FOLDER DOES NOT EXIST"

Question then... Is there anyway to get offline files to work? Or is it just non-functional in Vista x64

Re: "FILE OR FOLDER DOES NOT EXIST"

I'm not very familiar with using Offline Files, but maybe these links can help.

and

Hope they help,

Re: "FILE OR FOLDER DOES NOT EXIST"

It is quite likely that the issue is being caused due to deletion of the Registry branch:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\FolderDescriptions

You can apply the applicable registry patch mentioned below. Download it and rt click and merge it into your registry:
http://winvistaclub.com/download/fd32.zip
http://winvistaclub.com/download/fd64.zip

Worked for me

Re: "FILE OR FOLDER DOES NOT EXIST"

Joe.... What are you talking about? The file you suggest is the same file (diff name) as the above, the only difference is:
1) He posted newb instructions for the technically challenged
2) We pointed out that offline files must be disabled in certain situations (like mine) for the above mentioned files to have any effect.

Re: "FILE OR FOLDER DOES NOT EXIST"

When I download and click to merge the recommended .reg file, all it does is open a text file. I am not able to merge it into my registry. I have already tried every fix I have seen on the internet, and I have also downloaded and run both Registry Mechanic and RegCure.

Nothing is working for me to eliminate this problem. If I wasn't stuck using MS Office, I would have already ordered a MacBook Air. This Vista o.s. is the worst p.o.s. since Windows 98.

Re: "FILE OR FOLDER DOES NOT EXIST"

If all it's doing is opening a text file when you right click and choose merge then you have bigger issues with your PC that you need to look into.

P.S. 98 was a very fast and stable platform for it's time, when I was using it I never, not once, had it crash on me and I ran it from late beta's all the way till XP. If you want crap look at Windows BoB or Windows Me. If you want a Mac then buy one, put some version of windows on it so you can run the programs everyone else has but be happy knowing you paid 3x for the right to say you own a mac
