western digital netcenter

I have a Western Digital Netcenter external network drive. Under Vista I can
see some of the files stored there but not all of them.

On other non-Vista PC's all the files stored on this drive are viewable.

Any ideas on how I can see all the files on this drive from my Vista
computer???

Re: western digital netcenter

Hello,

This is probably caused by a bug in Samba related to improperly handling
fast queries, which Windows Vista now uses. You will need to get a firmware
upgrade from the manufacturer that upgrades samba to at least 3.0.22.

Re: western digital netcenter

The Western Digital website has the firmware update version 1.1.0.0003 as
their latest, this did not help after updating.

How would Samba fix this and where can I get firmware for it? Apparently WD
doesnt have it.

Re: western digital netcenter

Samba is most likely the software application on your netcenter that is
responsible for file sharing.

The problem is that older versions of Samba do not talk to Vista correctly;
Vista will only be able to see a portion of the files that the netcenter
contains.

Unfortunately, the only way to get an updated version of Samba is thru a
firmware upgrade.

If you e-mail WD and tell them that you are beta testing Vista, and that
your netcenter will not work correctly unless it has at least Samba 3.0.22,
perhaps they can give you more information.

Re: western digital netcenter

Contacted support from western digital.... got the canned response.... only
support Windows.......blah blah blah.

I will start to look around for another product which will support Vista
then sell the netcenter on ebay.
