Vista - Gears Of War / Vista

I purchased GOW for my pc---and after launching the game it just stops.

I have installed the latest version of LIVE. my pc:

evga 680i/duo-core 2.4/2gb ram

any ideas? error below.

what graphics card do you have and how much ram does it have on it the evga
6801 is just a motherbaord.....

I had the exact same problem with GoW after I first installed it. After googling the web, I found out that you need to launch GoW by clicking START (Vista Orb) > Games (on the upper right side of the Start Menu).

You will then see this Dialog Box:



Double click the GoW icon and you are all set. If you still have problems, right click on the GoW icon, Properties, and set it to run with Administrator privileges.

roy69, the steps you outlined are similar to the one I took to get GoW running on my PC. I now remembered being prompted either during the install or right afterwards to download the patch from MS. With regards to the Game folder in the Start menu, I never realized that Vista had this as I was still expecting the games to create shortcuts on the desktop after I installed them... Well COD4 did but not Crysis, Bioshock and GoW. GoW however was the only game that failed to launch from the DVD.

I had to create shortcuts on my desktop manually by dragging those icons inside the Games Folder and choosing to creat a shortcut option.

The only reason I can See microsoft would include a games folder is to follow fashion with the documents, pictures and other folders that are used alot. It also helps to free some of the workbench icons. Not all games automatically put icons in the game folder. When I have installed some games I have had to creat a shortcut there. GoW and Crysis are the only games that put an icon there for you that I have come across.

the GoW general chat on the epic forums http://forums.epicgames.com is full of posts about the wargame-g4wlive.exe crashes. It seems it's the games for windows live component (i.e. microsoft's fault) that causes the trouble, but it hasn't stopped the constant stream of hate towards epic.

For me it’s working fine in vista but it crashes in XP …
Please Help

Is GoW DX10 only. I haven`t played for a while so I don`t know.
