Cannot install game: The Movies

Recently obtained a second hand copy of The Movies. Attempted to
install game and it failed. Failure point was while trying to copy
"credits.wmv" from CD #1. Activision's web site said to turn off
antivirus and run as administrator. Tried again with these suggestions
but still no luck.

My system:
AMD Athlon 64 3800+
2GB RAM
145GB free HD space
Nvidia 7900GS video card
Vista Home Premium X64

So, any suggestions?

And hell, while we're here... any iTunes alternatives for x64? I just
want to be able to load music onto my iPod mini, buying music online
is not important.

Have you tried giving the disc a clean, this error is typical of a read
error.

If that doesn't work I'd recommend trying to copy the disc over to a folder
on your desktop for example, and running the installer from there, that
might just do enough to get it to work. If it does work you can go ahead
and delete the CD from the folder.

Re: Cannot install game: The Movies

I got the same game to work on my PC, without any problems... My system:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1GB RAM
100GB free HD space
Nvidia 7300GTS video card
Vista Ultimate X64

I can assure you that it's not a problem with windows, or your
configuration... I'd try hardware errors or cleaning the Disc (s) or copying
the contents onto your HD... Try Alcohol 52% or 120% if all else fails...

Sorry for the delay in responding, but this time of year I have
virtually no PC time.

Anyway, I have not tried again to install the game, but I did pop open
the box to have a look at the disk face. Sure enough, there's a big
fat greasy fingerprint on there, no drive is going to read through
that thing. So Im pretty sure you're both right that my problem is due
to a dirty disk.

(I can't believe I didn't check that myself. Doh!)
