Game not responding ...

My kids have told me that sometimes Vista thinks a game has stopped
responding, when in fact it just has a bit of lag.

Is there a way to stop this?

Don't play the game?
Otherwise, the usual applies--
Reduce the stuff running in background, etc.
Many of the fancy graphics heavy new games will pause during a load from
disk or CD operation.

Buy a faster computer?

I don't think there is. I get the same thing on my system at work when doing
a lot of stuff, the virtual memory goes into "forever swapping" mode and
Vista thinks the game is frozen (which I find quite amazing compared to XP).
The solution for me is 2-gigs ram, but it's a work system, not in the budget
to upgrade right now.

What make/model system are you using? Are you running at least 2 gigs ram?
Most people, even Microsoft people will tell you that you are doing the OS a
disservice by running on less than 2gigs.

best-a luck,
A.

I don't think they come much faster, just more cores.

Have 2GB RAM, Pentium 3GHz, Nvidia 8600 ...

It's not just one game, it often happens.

Is there a setting to change the timeout?
