Vista - sherlock holmes the awakened

I just bought this game and I figured I would have to do the whole data
execution thing, which I have had to do with other games... although this one
is supposed to be compatible, but oh well... anyway, all of the sudden my
screen comes up blue and it tells me that windows has encountered a problem
and that it is going to just shut my whole computer down to prevent further
damage... and then it did! What is this and what is going on, why won't my
computer play this game?
