gaming machine??..let's be honest here if you want to game then get a

Re: Prolly get slated here but..

Not being an avid gamer nor much of a fan of laptops, I admit my lack of
knowledge in the area.
I guess it IS possible to use a laptop as a gaming machine, but it would
probably have to be a very powerful and very expensive one. I don't think a
$1,200 machine will be up to the task. Maybe something more in the range of
$3,000.

In my experience most people generally assume how "new" a computer is
relates to how powerful it is. Rather than the combination of how
expensive/new it is.

A lot of people do seem to ask me if a game is compatible with a laptop, so
some people do indeed seem to know there is some difference.

Ultimately I think the way out of this was simplifying specifications using
the WEI rating system, however I don't think Microsoft are doing enough to
iron out a few remaining imbalances, extend it into the future or promote
its use.

Because a lot of people are in the "console mode". They buy a PC and expect
it to play anything, similar to a console (PS3, XBOX). They don't really
understand the specs.

Sure, there are some GREAT gaming laptops out there, but they are for gaming
on the go. Your gaming experience is still not going to be as good as a
desktop PC with a huge monitor.

Exactly, I see so many posts were people have spent big money on a laptop
then proceed to slate Vista because it won't play Crysis at the highest
settings.

I run Crysis from 2007 on my Windows Vista machine with everything maxed out
(admittedly at a lower resolution than I would like). :-)

Intel Quad Core Extreme CPU X7900 @2.80 GHz
Vista Ultimate x64
ATI HD 2600 XT
4 Gig RAM
500 Gig HDD
