Vista - Gears of War malfunction

I have Vista Ultimate x64, Nvidia 8800M GTX w/DX10, Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, 4 GB ram, and so on.
Whenever I open gears of war, it starts with the default preferences, instead of the ones I chose.
I go to the options, change all of the options again, including the one that actives the game in DX10. It tells me that in order for the changes to take effect, that I need to restart the game. I do so, but the same, default preferences load up, instead of the ones I had recently chosen.
I have updated it, put all the hotfixes, etc., but nothing seems to work.
Any help? Anyone know which configuration file(s) and which string(s) within the file I would need to change so that my preferences become the default?

1. Go to Start, click Run, type “regedit,” and then press Enter to launch the Registry Editor
2. Go to the following registry entry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\]
3. Change the “SetupPath” value so that the word “binaries” is capitalized. For example: “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\binaries\” becomes “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\”

For some reason, this folder doesn't exist under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, only under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, and even here, in the Gears of War folder, there isn't a "SetupPath", only "DefaultValue" and "UploadConfigData". I created a new string and put what you told me to. I'll see if works. Is it weird that that string isnt there?

I haven't tried myself I've seen this in the gears of war website ... so I guess it should be here but.

Did you manage to solve your Bioshock loading freeze... mine does it just
after selecting the difficulty level when playing with DirectX 10, if I right
click on the icon and preselect DirectX 9 then it runs Ok buy why pay for the
kit to use DX10 and then not be able to play with it eh?

Of interest we have almost identical spec!
