Can't run games in DX 10, no idea why =(

Hello, I'm writing here because I can't get directx 10 to run on any games I
play. For example, Team Fortress 2. The option to change which direcx version
to use is grayed out, and it's on direct x 9 on both hardware and software.

    My specs:
I'm running Windows Vista home premium (32 bit), and dxdiag confirms DirectX
10 is installed. I have an Intel Core 2 6600, and 4 gigs of ram. The video
card I'm running is the MIS Geforce 8800 GTS, updated to the latest drivers
(drivers released may 13th 2008). I have dual monitors, the main one running
    at a 1680 x 1050 resolution, and my secondary running at a 1280 x 1024
    resolution.

When I set some game options to run at direct x 10, they will fail to load
at all. With more and more directx 10 games on the way, I would like to have
this issue fixed asap =(. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help and
    offer suggestions!

Team Fortress 2 only supports DirectX 9.0c, Just because you have
DirectX 10, doesn't mean the game runs in DirectX 10.

3 things you need for DirectX 10 games.

    1. A DirectX 10 compatible Video Card (nVidia 8x00 series or ATi HD
    card)
    2. Windows Vista
    3. A game that uses DirectX 10.

Some examples I can think of off the top of my head...

    Bioshock (with patch)
    Crysis
    Assassin's Creed
    Company of Heroes (with patch)
    Lord of the Rings Online
    Lost Planet
    Hellgate: London
    Gears of War
    FSX: Acceleration (with patch)
    FarCry 2
    World in Conflict
    Guild Wars 2

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ctX_10_support

Notice I didn't mention any Steam Games in that list.

There is a commandline you can add to TF2 to change your DirectX Level,
but your only options are "-dxlevel 90" for 9.0c, or "-dxlevel 81" for
8.1, but you usually only use the line if you're having problems.

I don't know what games are failing to load for you, but I would suggest
checking with the game maker for updates, run DXWEBSETUP.EXE to make
sure you have the latest DirectX files installed (you can get from
http://www.microsoft.com/Directx). Reply here with the game and error
    messages you are receiving.

ahhh ok thanks. That's one game down =X. But I'm not able to switch Bioshock
or Hellgate london into DX 10 either. Same w/ Age of Conan (i've got the 3
day early pass, so I've got the full game patched/installed today). For
example age of conan...I set it to DX 10 and try to launch, it fails to
launch (no error message or anything, just doesnt start up at all). When I
set it to DX 9, it works perfectly.

Hmm...dxwebsetup says no install needed because I've got the latest...but DX
10 works now on everything but age of conan (which is most likely the clients
fault)...awesome thanks for all the help xD

update drivers, patch games to newest versions. Call EA tech support,
    it's free.
