| Vista Home Premium X64 | Dx10 issue I was informed by the developers over at Flagship Studios that I may have a corrupt install of DX10 on my system. I went to reinstall DX10 but it tells me that I have the most up to date version and aborts the install. Does anyone know a way I can reinstall DX10? Also, I would like to try intalling DX9c to see if it helps any. Can someone link me to wich download I should use for this? |

| | Re: Dx10 issue Link to DirectX9.0c: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en See if that fixes your issues. It may not be a corrupt DX10 install (well, it shouldn't be). -- Dustin Harper dharper@xxxxxx http://www.vistarip.com | Vista Resource & Information Page Was this helpful? I'm surprised they didn't tell you to defrag your HDD to fix the problem. Run chkdsk and look at the report it generates, it will tell you if you had any corrupted files. |

| Vista Home Premium X64 | Re: Dx10 issue Thanks for the replies people. This gives me some stuff to go on for now. The game is Hellgate by the way. They believe that the DX10 engine failure is in effect because I am missing graphics in DX10 that are present in the DX9 engine. Here is the original inquiry. I actually havent tried an uninstall / reinstall yet . Ill write back after the reinstall and defrag and all that.Quote: Me: For instance, if I cast a Personal Relocation Device in the DX9 engine, I will see a column of light with a dark purple circle and active ripples on the floor. In DX10, the only thing I see is a column of light. There is no dark purple circle with active ripples on the floor in the DX10 engine. Other spells and activities have a similar discrepency. In DX9, if I attack a barrell, there is an explosion effect. In DX10, when attacked, the barell will simply fragment and then dissappear. In addition to this, for people with the above mentioned setup (Vists 64 and DX10), the DX9 engine appears to behave much more effectively. I have had times with DX10 where i get 60 fps, just like I do with DX9. But 99.99% of the time, the DX10 engine behaves ineffectively. The engine will render 18-25 frames per second under normal load. In a party, in open air locations, the DX10 engine will sustain FPS levels as low as 1-10. This effectively renders the DX10 engine unplayable. |

I used to work in Cust Support for EA, Back in the EARLY days of DirectX, we used to get tons of people calling saying, "well Gateway said that DirectX was the problem and it didn't work", when basically DirectX is either installed, or it's not installed. There really is no, "working or not working", It was usually the video drivers or crappy hardware that had no chance of running a 3D game. Ah, good times. I miss my Voodoo2's To answer the question that has been answered, you can't mess up DirectX 10, there's really no way to uninstall it unless you've been deleting files from c:\windows\system32, and most people I talk to don't do that. If you did, then Vista should stop working because Aero uses DirectX as I understand it. /shrug Probably wrong. http://www.microsoft.com/directx This link has been around for nearly a decade now, it should eventually take you to an application called "dxwebsetup.exe" Running this application on your system installs and checks all versions of DirectX for Vista or Windows XP/2K, and if it says, "all directx OK", then it's all OK. There's really no way to "corrupt" directX unless your Hard drive is failing and causing files to be corrupted, but that's unusual because even failing hard drives won't change files unless they are being written, and the only time you should write or modify DirectX files is when installing Vista or running DXWebSetup. So, long story short. I have no idea what's going on. Update drivers, post system specs, call it a day. HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE! (OK, I spilled a cup of coffee in my lap, i'm pissy, sorry.) -- -A. |

| | RE: Dx10 issue I can assume from your description that you are reffering to Hellgate:London, This is a known issue with Hellgate and not a Direct10 corruption issue, If you are running an ATI card the drivers from 8.5 upwards appear to have resolved this. If NVIDIA then again I suggest latest drivers. There is also an issue when Anistropic filtering is turned on that corrupts the graphics on this game. Many users have had the same issue. When i update my graphics drivers this stopped happening for me "derelict360" wrote: Quote: > > I was informed by the developers over at Flagship Studios that I may > have a corrupt install of DX10 on my system.
