Odd issue with MSFS 2004 and Vista

Hello!

I've tried searching to no avail.

It seems my FS2004 installation hates me. I recently upgraded to the new rig with Vista and installed my old favorites. However FS2004 seems to hate me something fierce.

I finally got it to load properly - however now after about 30 seconds rendered in the world the game freezes to black screen then crashes and restarts. The aircraft and location do not seem to make a difference.

I'm currently loading up in the default situation (cessna on the runway in SEA) and again about 20-30 seconds after it's loaded the sim goes to a black screen and stops responding.

I've turned off Aero and made the compatibility suggestions made in other posts (relating to display features for legacy programs). Anyone have any idea what could cause the sim to load and function properly for the first 30 seconds and then crash without making any additional inputs?

Sorry if this post makes no sense - I'm exceptionally tired atm.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance - I'm super jazzed to FINALLY have a computer that gives me great frame rates in new york area with full AI and I can only drool for 30 seconds.
