Summary:
1 - You have a dvd drive on your Vista system
2 - other dvd's put into the drive work fine
3 - this game-dvd doesn't even register as being inserted when you put it in
the drive

4 - Some ideas:
its a copy on a disk-type your drive doesn't support (like DVD-RAM)
the disk is scratched up in the wrong place (easily checked on other
computers)
you have some kind of DRM/Virus preventing access to the disk (check
your application log and see if anything shows up)

Perhaps someone else has other ideas

I am having this same problem on one of my computers. Two other computers will read the medieval total war disk fine. a third computer just cannot see the disk. That third computer reads other disks fine, including a rome total war disk.

I am running xp. any suggestions? tried checking for new drivers. tried disable/enable of cd rom. very frustrating.

Re: Medieval 2 total war

interesting... In reading around the web it appears the disks are not
compatible with some drives. I don't know the percentages but many people
report success only after replacing their drive - not an answer you want to
hear I know. Some reported a replacement disk from the mfg worked but others
say they are just as bad. You can try asking for a replacement and see if it
helps.

What do you mean by a replacement drive?

Re: Medieval 2 total war

Some people reported success only after purchasing a new dvd drive and
installing it in their computer
Some people reported success (but others reported none) after receving
replacment disks from the mfg.
Wish i could help more.

Re: Medieval 2 total war

Alright a few months have passed and my computer is all fixed now ( i have no idea how, I replaced the bad memory stick, USB devices, etc etc) and I tried to install Medieval 2 Total War once again. This time, I put in the 2nd disk of the 2 disk set and it actually detected it in the DVD-Rom. However, nothing came up and when i double clicked on the icon for the disk, a box that was all black inside ( a command box or something) appeared for like half a second. However, the computer still does not detect the first disk.
