RE: Medieval 2 total war

Hi everyone, I bought Medieval 2 total war Gold Pack (which includes the expansion) recently. When I put the installer disk into my DVD-CD Rom, it wont read the disk. It doesn't even detect that it is there in the first place. Can someone please help me because I have been really looking forward to play this game, only to find out I can't even install it.

Re: Medieval 2 total war

First question - do you have a DVD-drive or a CD-Drive?

I have a DVD drive.
Have you tried right clicking on the drive and choosing open and then browse to the installer for the game and right clicking it and then choosing run as adminstrator?

I've tried but my computer doesn't even read that the disk is in the drive. If I were to click open on my DVD-Drive, all it would say is: please insert disk. It wont even detect that it is there.

Hmmm, most odd, although I have had that from time to time, but simply opening the drive and then shutting it again managed to get the disk going and then bingo! but this is odd, not sure really what else to suggest, do your other games start ok? sorry install ok?

Just had a look on the Total War site and found a post where someone said by turning off UAC it installed fine, not sure if that would help you, but its worth a try maybe?

You can always turn it back on if it does not help

To turn it off go to Control Panel, double click on User Accounts and you'll see there an option for turning it off, maybe worth a shot?

Hope you have success

I tried turning off the UAC when I realized that it was turned off already, so thats not the problem. And speaking of my other games, games such as Counter-Strike Source, Starcraft, Supreme Commander, and Farcry2 have always been crashing, CS:S the most. I just did a system restore to see if it was the games or if it was the computer, so I'm waiting for anything to happen, if it should.

Could be a bad disk. You can take it to a friend or store and see if they
can read the disk.

Do you mean as a scratched up copy or pirated copy? I bought the expansion from an amazon seller and he had very good feedback.

Medieval 2 total war

let me see if I have it down....

Summary:
1 - You have a dvd drive on your Vista system
2 - other dvd's put into the drive work fine
3 - this game-dvd doesn't even register as being inserted when you put it in
the drive

4 - Some ideas:
its a copy on a disk-type your drive doesn't support (like DVD-RAM)
the disk is scratched up in the wrong place (easily checked on other
computers)
you have some kind of DRM/Virus preventing access to the disk (check
your application log and see if anything shows up)

Perhaps someone else has other ideas
