Old games on RC1?

I really like RC1 except that can`t play any older games like Quake, Halo and
any other game that worked from Win95 thru WinXP. Anyone know of a way to get
old games to work?

Re: Old games on RC1?

16Bit Applications ( DOS/Win 3.x/ early Win95 ) are not supported, as in
Windows Vista the complete 16bit Code-Support is gone and it wont come back
by no way.

All native 32bit apps (NT/2000/XP) should do well, as well as most "true"
Win98/Me apps.

rightclicking an icon / the *.exe and try all compatibility settings to get
an old app to work.

Also try running as Administrator if else will fail.

for DOS-based games you could go with emulators like DOSBOX /Microsoft
VirtualPC (is free now ) and the Likes.

Re: Old games on RC1?

I successfully ran Quake3 so I could get a bit of an idea of what the frame
rate would be. It runs as fast as XP.

Re: Old games on RC1?

I don't think that's accurate, because I am able to run 16-bit programs on
Vista RC1 just fine. I tried out the old Windows 3.1 game "Alien Force" just
to make sure. DOS programs still work also, I was able to play 8088 Othello
from my IBM XT.

I know for a fact that Halo works. There is even a Bungie web page that you
get sent to at the "this game has compatability issues" warning that says
"Vista displayes a false warning, these 2 files will remove the warning".

The game runs a-ok.
