| Guest | Vista RC1 and game compatibility Sorry, I've put this in both the "Games" and "General" boxes, not sure where it should be for sure: I installed Vista RC1 on our old computer to try it out and set it up with two user accounts, both marked as "administrator". My hubby tried to install one of his games and Vista blocked the driver for it, so I went to the games site to see if there were any updates and there weren't. Then uninstalled the game and tried to re-install it using the compatibility "wizard"-- it gave an error saying that it couldn't access the "autorun.exe" or "setup.exe". so now I am trying to install the game again, then will try to play the game using the compatibility thing, as the game says its compatible with windows 2000/XP only. Game: Rainbow Six, Lockdown-- ubisoft (ubi.com) Question: Waste of time? Have to wait for a new version or fix from the game or should the compatibility thing work? |

In this case the copy-protection on the game is what's causing the problem. It uses something called Star Force, which is what is trying to install the driver, normal applications don't need to do anything so intrusive and so most applications don't run into such problems. You can try and install their Vista driver from: http://www.star-force.com/protection.phtml?c=83&id=963 -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. | Guest | Re: Vista RC1 and game compatibility After doing that and still running it with the compatibility wizard, it looks like its going to start-- we see the opening window, then we get: _______________________________________________________ Lockdown.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solutin is available. _______________________________________________ Then when the program is closed we have on our desktop a very large notepad log: ________________________________________________________ Lockdown caused an Access Violation in module Lockdown.exe at 001b:005678be. Command Line : "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Red Storm Entertainment\Rainbow Six Lockdown\Lockdown.exe" Exception handler called in Main Thread. Error occurred at 10/15/2006 13:07:02. C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Red Storm Entertainment\Rainbow Six Lockdown\Lockdown.exe, run by Mommy. 1 processor(s), type 586. 511 MBytes physical memory. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE: x86 PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER: x86 Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0, AuthenticAMD PROCESSOR_LEVEL: 6 PROCESSOR_REVISION: 0a00 NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS: 1 __________________________________________________ I stopped with the cut and paste there, because it really is quite large. Hope this is fixable. I even posted on the games community site in the hopes, but looks like they are all at a loss as well. Thanks for trying with me though. Then the game might have worked in Windows Vista. -- --- ///Terje Alexander Barth \\\/// |
