Battlefield 2142 Problems

I recently installed the RC1 5600 build as an upgrade. I play BF 2142 on a
regular basis, and had no problems when on XP Pro with all settings on high.
I now try and play and get massive lag spikes, despite my ping being only
29. Iv tried turning all firewalls off, every background program, and even
un-installing and reinstalling the game. Nothing has worked. Has anyone hd
this problem? And would a clean install help?

This sounds like driver issues, are you using a GeForce card?

Re: Battlefield 2142 Problems

How much memory do you have installed? I had 1GB and ran BF2 under XP with
no problems. However under VISTA, at least 512mb seemed to be used by the
O/S and the game ran like a dog.. upgraded to 2gb and all is fine..

Re: Battlefield 2142 Problems

all I can say is that BF2 needs 2 gig even though my ping was low 30s so
unless anyone else has any suggestions. You can check memory used by the
o/s just by the usage monitor in the sidebar when nothing else is
running,,,, at present, with 2gb and nothing else running its 32%!

Re: Battlefield 2142 Problems

Iim looking at the task manager now, and I notice that with 1gb of ram its
using 40% of the memory! If with 2gb of ram your is running at 32% then is
there really a huge difference in gameplay? I dont want to drop $100 on
somthing unless theres a cheaper (or free, hint hint) option that will help.
Again, I was running BF2142 and had a ping of 25, but my FPS was at last 3
(guesstimated) making the game unplayable.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Problems

vista is gpu dependent, so you will see a performance drop no matter what.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Problems

I think it's moreso a driver issue, non of the video drivers are mature
enough, especially at the RC1 stage. I personally don't play BF2142 but
have read a number of post from other users of problems with this game and
Vista due to driver problems.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Problems

"I recently installed the RC1 5600 build as an upgrade"....

I think we can stop right there. There are vast differences between the RC1
build and the RTM build, particularly regarding game performance and ram
usage. DWM in beta builds for example was common to see 50-60MB ram usage,
in RTM I've seen more like 10-20MB.
