Plus Vista is great in many areas too (looks, security, other features). The downside is that you may have driver problems in the short-term while hardware manufacturers catch up, and there is the additional cost. Is your hardware suitable? It will be in time if it isn't already. |

| | RE: Should i upgrade to vista for gaming. I would wait on getting Vista for at least a month after the public release... I have been beta testing it for a long time, on a few different setups, and have never gotten frame rates i get in xp. this is especially true with nvidia cards (i have a 7900gtx), which unless they have updated it, do not even have RTM graphics drivers on the nvidia web site yet. | | RE: Should i upgrade to vista for gaming. ok i spoke too soon. they have added rtm drivers for builds 5744 and higher to the nvidia web site. i still would wait a few months to purchase vista just for better gaming performance, unless of course you have the extra money sitting around. I quote: "NVIDIA has released the following WHQL certified drivers for use with Windows Vista RTM that will enable you to test the basic features and capabilities of the new operating system. " I wouldn't look for true RTM drivers until after Jan. 30, 2007. Wayne |

| | Re: Should i upgrade to vista for gaming. Yes, and I suggest upgrading to x64 Vista. 64bit gaming is the future. I love playing 64bit Half Life 2, and 64bit FarCry. Don't let others disuade you from 64 bit just because their old hardware is not supported. Wayne |

| | Re: Should i upgrade to vista for gaming. True. If you can get the drivers - do it. Many drivers are already available. If you don't like it, go back to 32 bit. | | RE: Should i upgrade to vista for gaming. I would wait for a while before upgrading. Until the first service pack, possibly-- unless you find something you absolutely need that requires it. | | Re: Should i upgrade to vista for gaming. At the time there is nothing that Vista can specificially take advantage with for games. There are games coming down the pipe in a few months that will require Vista in order to run. Other games that have DirectX 10 Support will also still run on DirectX9. So it is more of a personal preference. I have had no issues playing games with Vista.
