| Guest | General Game installation Issues Hello all, I’m looking for some information on installation issues I am having with games in the final release of vista home premium. I have 6 different games which refuse to install correctly of a clean install of vista. They were all fine with XP. Games are; Splinter cell Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 Warhammer Mark of Chaos Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter Battlefield 2 Battlefield 2142 Battlefield 2142 was the first problem. I am installing from the ea downloader and I am given an error message stating “MD5Error:c:\programfiles\EAgames\Battlefield2\mods\bf2\common_client.zip” Repeated installation attempts do not help, along with re-downloading the installation files. Battlefield 2 has the same problem, only this time it’s being installed from the disc. The other 4 provide a variety of crc errors and crash before completing. Having read the reviews on vista I am of the understanding that the installation programs may be at fault. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems or know anything about the cause. I post here as vista is the common denominator. Thanks |

The way I overcame it was to reinstall XP then to install everything that you need to and then upgrade to Vista. I suggest you try it this way.... |

| Guest | Re: General Game installation Issues Thank you for the responses, yes, tried this, as administrator too, both together and independently. Splinter cell will fail each time about 10 seconds in. Battlefield 2 won't even uninstall without uninstall shield crashing. To fun time Frankie, I believe this is would work but I can't be doing it each time I get a game. I can get some games going by letting them install and skipping the dodgy files, then copying the old installation from windows.old. This however throws up cd key problems. | Guest | Re: General Game installation Issues Don't know what to tell you about the Battlefield games. I installed both BF2 and BF2142 with no problems. Just for giggles you might try copy everything from your CD\DVD over to a hard drive and install from there. You'll of course, need the CD\DVD to play, but maybe it's the way windows is intereactiing with your DVD drive that's the problem "Grant Melia" <Grant Melia@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8C49B429-074B-4132-924A-E41436D0A978@microsoft.com... > Hello all, > > I'm looking for some information on installation issues I am having with > games in the final release of vista home premium. | Guest | RE: General Game installation Issues Hi Grant, I have had similar problems with some games, including Mark of Chaos, as well. The only way I've found so far to get around the problems is to do the following; - Reformat - Install XP, but don't bother installing any drivers or anything - As soon as it logs you into XP for the first time, do an UPGRADE to Vista Installing Vista in this way, i.e. not doing a fresh format and install but performing an UPGRADE from XP instead, has solved all my problems regarding games, who knows why! One more thing, Mark of Chaos, amongst some others, doesn't like it when you change your default Vista "Documents" to be an entire drive such as "D:\", therefore I also had to create a new file system within my data hard drive called "D:\Documents" and assign my Vista "Documents" target there instead before it would save a valid savegame folder in the target, (then transfer all my documents down one directory into the new folder). I hope this helps people sort things out! |

| Guest | Solution to difficult gaming installs. I have been using Vista Ultimate Beta for well over 6 months now and have encountered numerous installation issues with all sorts of programs. Grant, when it comes to videos games, strange as this may seem, the first thing to check is your display driver and monitor driver. If either of these is installed incorrectly or not installed you will get some of the wildest error messages you have ever seen. After that you need to make sure that you have the Vista equivalent of Flash and shockwave. Also double check on your direct X verision. According to some of the articles I have read its say that Vista comes with Direct X 10. However my experience shows that you want to also have Direct X 9.0c installed as well. Vista home basic was allowing me to install any and all older verisions of Direct X with out any problems so try installing the direct X verision on the disk. Give those a shot and if they don't work send me a message, but the above mentioned fixes should do the trick on 95% of all your gaming programs. Good luck and may the Schwartz be with you Lonestar. |

| Guest | Re: Solution to difficult gaming installs. This helped me out with Vista and games. I didn't realize that some games were not running because I didn't install DX9. Now I can play the C&C3 demo fine.
