Vista - vista issue

I just recently upgraded to vista x32 ultimate edition, and I'm having some
problems with games. I have tried playing counterstrike: source as well as
battlefield 2142, and during startup they have both froze up. I have a NVIDIA
7900GT, and have heard that they are having problems with updating their
vista drivers, should that be my problem or could it be something different.

Judging from what's been an ongoing battle since the RC days, I think Nvidia
is still struggling to get their drivers cleaned up and working well with
Vista. Is it safe to assume that you have downloaded the 100.54 drivers from
nVidia's website ?

Hope you have the option to dual boot, else you might have learned the hard
way, why more people chose to wait a few months before jumping to something
totally new.

Sorry, forgot to throw in actual useful suggestions.

Do you have any other games to test with, maybe like Doom3, Prey Call of
Duty, FEAR ? Did oyu try running the games as Administrator and\or under
XP:SP compatibility mode ?

It might seem silly, but games like FEAR and 3dMark96 don't want to run
without the AUG 06 update of DX 9.0c, I was able to apply teh Dec 06 update
to get FEAR working (though it's a little odd) and I've played BF2142 for
hours on end. So you might consider, going over to MS and downloading the
FEB release of the DX 9.0c drivers and see if that makes any difference.

The worst situation is that there is no law stipulating that one has to
upgrade their drivers for any OS. Microsoft comes out with a new OS and they
think everyone has to adjust to it regardless. Microsoft itself has made
Vista so that it is not backward compatible with it own designed programs,
and other hardware drivers as well.

Sure Microsoft could of made Windows Vista so its 100% backwards compatible
with Windows XP. The trouble is that product would be Windows XP.

Sheesh. Planning to sue because the drivers around at the moment are not all
they could be? Have these people ever considered getting a grip?

You'd think these people would accept limited driver availability as the
price to pay for early adoption.

There are those poor souls out there that think the day a product is
official launced and a company says they are 100% Vista compliant, means
everything should work 100%. Anything is deceptive advertising. I can go
with that to a degree. But nVidia is a proud company with a fair amount of
history towards having qulaity products (though I'm sure the ATI fan boys
would totally disagree).

It almost seems idiototic to hear about people trying to sue, just because
those drivers are not where they wanted them. I can understand their
frustration, but come on, who migrates to a new OS on day one adn expects
everything to be perfect ?!? those people should be given a full refund, and
never allowed to buy a product that's not at least 1 year old ever again

It is known that Dirextx 10 will soon be out and NVIDIA has a great deal to
do about how it is written so that it will work with the new Directx10
video cards that will follow. I'm sure that with this in mind everything
will be taken care of when this happens. And I'm sure at that time the
drivers will be compatible for all.
