| | RC! Vs The Final Product for games OK... been running Vista RC! Build 5600 sinde it was releaded. It's worked fine so far, with the exception of games. Vista RC1 had serious compatibility issues with 50% of the games my kids had that worked just fine under XP. Even setting Vista in XP mode seemed to make little difference. That said, has anybody who has the final product noticed how Vista works for games in comparuson to Vista RC1 and XP? I want to make the leap to the commercial release of Vista, but need to know how friendly a gaming platform it is. |

| | Re: RC! Vs The Final Product for games My two favorite games I love to play are FEAR and FEAR extraction point. I am using a NVIDIA 8800 GTS so I can take advantage of Direct X 10 games when they are released. The FEAR games play smoother than in my old Windows XP setup. However, they play just a few frames slower but that is not noticeable to the human eye. regards Robert "HagarTheHorrible" <HagarTheHorrible@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news 77798C9-C729-4660-9FC6-5ECAA9774044@microsoft.com...> OK... been running Vista RC! | | Re: RC! Vs The Final Product for games Thanks. In my case Age of Empires & other such titles work just fine. The main problem I have is with my kids games. I can live without 'em, but the constant complaining from them about Vista is starting to get to me.... ;-} "RR Johnson Jr." wrote: > My two favorite games I love to play are FEAR and FEAR extraction point. | | Re: RC! Vs The Final Product for games Make sure you have the game executables set to run as administrator and then there should hopefully be no problems. If that fails then try the compatibility tab in the properties of the executable and ry Windows XP. regards Robert "HagarTheHorrible" <HagarTheHorrible@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:FFE4C05C-FDFA-4AD5-9B94-CF388D589FE0@microsoft.com... > Thanks. | | Re: RC! Vs The Final Product for games Personally, I would have ot suggest not making the leap for another 6 months. All the games I play work and I've got no major complaints, but at the same time, I just have a thing about playing slower and using more ram. I think once the video drivers get a little more age under them, then the gaming scene will be alot better. | | Re: RC! Vs The Final Product for games Just curious, did you try running the system benchmark in FEAR and FEARXP. And specicfically run it two or 3 times in a row ? I'm getting some odd behavior with FEAR and EP (that I don't get under XP:SP2). When I run the benchmarks, I may get a 150 fps, the next run I get 45, then 30, then back up to 80. What has me scratching my head, is I can turn off shadows and volumetric lighting and it makes no difference on the score. In fact, a few times, I set everything to minimum and it never would report more than 60fps, then I coudl reboot and it would report 200, but then back down to 40 on the enxt run. Under XP with everything at MAX, noAA Trileaner filtering) I get 100-105 with shadows, 120-125 no shadows. I have the ATI X1900XTX, so I'm guessing it's just a driver issue with that game. Games like Doom3, HL2, Battlefield2 and2142 as well as 3dmark06 all report normal expected numbers and are consistent every run.
