| Guest | RE: directx 10 compatibility No, Directx 10 works with all cards, but you cant take advantage of the EXTRA feature in directx10 without an 8800 card at this point. So far nothing out there even uses directx10s new stuff. Basically directx 10 is directx9 + new stuff. The answer is yes other graphics cards will run using vista and directx10 It is confusing really :] "Alex" wrote: > Does directX 10 work only with 8800? or other grapics cards support it? can > someone please explain. Basically directx >10 is directx9 + new stuff. No DX10 is a new API that ditches all the accumulated crap from the old DX's. DX9L is included in Vista for legacy support. -- Andrew, contact via http://interpleb.googlepages.com Help make Usenet a better place: English is read downwards, please don't top post. | Guest | Re: directx 10 compatibility DirectX10 will work with the 8800 series cards only right now. That is for the hardware functions. If you use a DX10 game, they have a compatibility that allows them to use DX9 features. If you have an older DX9 video card, you can run the DX10 games with DX10 on your PC, but you will not get the additional DX10 graphical features. It will just look different. | Guest | Re: directx 10 compatibility Question then. I am running Vista Home Premium. I haven't seen any DX updates in Windows Update. But I noticed that there is a Feb Update for DirectX 9. Should I be installing this? Or will it have a negative effect on my DirectX 10, in which case I should be waiting for Direct X 10 updates? I don't have a DX10 card, if it makes any difference (Radeon X1600) Thanks. "Dustin Harper" wrote: > DirectX10 will work with the 8800 series cards only right now. | Guest | Re: directx 10 compatibility The DX9/0c updates will not appear in windowsupdate, as it's not an critical or arguanle essential update for most people. Yes you can install it, I've installed several different iterations of the updates and games like FEAR will not run unless you apply at least one of these updates. DX9 and DX10 run independant of each other. "Holmes108" <Holmes108@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F83F0154-D452-4693-AB0E-5808C1EA9FA3@microsoft.com... > Question then.
