Re: Installing Warcraft 3

1) Go to Start > Run > type regedit
2) Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders"

if there is no string in there called "Programs" put that in with the value:

C:\\Users\\%USERNAME%\\AppData\\Roaming\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs

and you can get the installation to work, game works fine too.

Re: Installing Warcraft 3

Hello, I run a 32bit vista, and I have problems with WC3. I can install Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos, but I can't update the patches. I've tried downloading and installing it manually from the Blizzard site and also through Bnet, but it doesn't work.

This is the error message:

This is the error message: Blizzard BNUpdate v2.130 compiled on Jun 24 2008
Log created at 10:37 am on 12/06/2008

This patch upgrades Warcraft III Reign of Chaos from the previous version.

ERROR: unable to open source archive 'C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3x.mpq'

RESULT: Patch failed

I also tried to install Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne, and it gets stuck halfway and doesn't continue to read. After that happens, many times it will say that it can't read my Reign of Chaos either.

I've been trying all sorts of things for the past 5 days, even reinstalling OS Vista, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Installing Warcraft 3

Assuming you don't have a hard disk problem, you might try installing into a
different location. Create c:\games and install WC3 into it, then try the
update process. The reason is that UAC is very testy about what happens in
c:\program files and its possible there is a permissions problem.

Hope that helps!

OMG it worked! You're my hero!!

The Wwarcraft 3 ROC was able to install and patch.

However, the second problem is still the same, TFT can't install, freezing halfway. I tried copying the files from the CD to C:Games folder, but it can't copy the mpq file..

Re: Installing Warcraft 3

Glad it worked!

If you are unable to do a simple copy of the files from the cd onto the hard
disk, unless there is some bizarre copy-protection at work, I suspect a
scratch/bad spot on the disk. There are cd resurfacers that can be purchased
at most electronics stores, you could try that. You may also be able to get
a replacement disk from Blizzard, the game is still available and since you
are a registered owner most companies will send a replacement.

Hope that helps!
