| Guest | Running Games Designed for XP Hi - I am debating the whole Vista thing and I have a quick question. I have heard that if software (I'm wondering specifically about games right now) is designed to run on XP (if the specs of the game say XP) then it will run on Vista. Is that true? I realize that you may have to tweak a setting here or there or put it in compatibility mode. Also, what would you do if you contact the game manufacturers for info on this and they either don't know or don't reply (I haven't started this process yet but am just asking in advanced)? Thanks! |

| Guest | Re: Running Games Designed for XP Most games work. Some do not, or have quite a bit of FPS issues (FEAR, Oblivion). You can check the game makers forums and there should be a lot of posts for Vista compatibility. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com -- "niagara94" <niagara94@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:080D3816-6C0B-4B68-A8FB-CDE5C7ABA66A@microsoft.com... > Hi - I am debating the whole Vista thing and I have a quick question. | Guest | Re: Running Games Designed for XP If it says it's designed for XP, odds are pretty good it's a new game and will work. You can post the games you are pondering about, Or do a search through this forum for the game title. I agree with Dustin about going to the game makers forums and see what they say, though if you go to FEARS forums, you're not going to see a whole lot of activity on the subject. My personal answer is, If you don't have the option to dual boot under both Vista and XP, I would hold off on upgrading to vista for at least 2 more months. Right now Nvidia and Creative are working on their drivers, so if you have those products it could be a painful cutover. If you're happy with your system right now, there isn't a good reason to switch over to Vista yet. If you're planning on playing DX10 games like Crysis, then I would wait until Crysis is release. If you have the drives or logical partitions to dual boot, then I say go for, it's a great way to learn and have a safety net "niagara94" <niagara94@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:080D3816-6C0B-4B68-A8FB-CDE5C7ABA66A@microsoft.com... > Hi - I am debating the whole Vista thing and I have a quick question. | Guest | Re: Running Games Designed for XP FPS = Frames Per Second. Basically, some of them go slower than in XP, some (like FEAR) are quite a bit slower. They are working on a patch to fix it, though. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com -- "niagara94" <niagara94@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BF68DF94-B506-48E5-B45A-389F3669B0BA@microsoft.com... > Thank you both for you reply.
