Garbled Graphics in pre-loaded games and other programs

I'm running Windows Vista on a brand new Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop, Intel
Core 2 Duo at 2GHz and 2Gigs of RAM

The 3D graphics and text in the games Chess Titans, Hearts, Mahjong Titans
and others, is completely garbled and intelligible. Basically, they're
screwed up. Oddly, the games seem to run fine otherwise. Any suggestions on
how to correct this?

RE: Garbled Graphics in pre-loaded games and other programs

I found a partial solution:

Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager > expanded Display
Adapters > selected my video card > right clicked then selected Update Driver
Software

After a short online search, the drivers for the card were updated and it
solved some of the graphics issues. Most notably, the board in Chess Titans
now has the proper texture map on it instead of the mess that was smeared on
it before. Other graphics issues persist, however, such as still garbled
graphics in Mahjong.

Do you have an NVIDIA graphics adapter in the laptop? If so, that would
cause the problems you describe. NVIDIA is working on drivers that work
better.

RE: Garbled Graphics in pre-loaded games and other programs

I have an ATI card, and it would appear that the drivers must have been
damaged after I loaded a game demo of Supreme Commander. After following the
above steps I laid out, I then restarted; after that, all the graphics seem
to be fine. Problem solved!

I have same problem on my new vista/antec. I followed the "partial solution"
but microsoft said i was up to date with driver software. In the Hearts Game
my graphics on names of players are white and black shadowed, and the
instruction prompts only show the left half. Of even more concern is the
delay after each "trick"of cards is played. How I wish I had my old windows
XP Hearts game.

"In the Hearts Game

No solution, but I have the same problem on my machine with Vista
Ultimate...I just downloaded the latest nvidia drivers (158. ) and the
problem remains.
