buy 32 bit or 64 bit' bearing in mind that I am only using this for games
and games only.

Re: Buying Vista

My PC hardware closely matches yours, except I have a Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
and a nvidia 7300. You shouldn't have any driver issues with either the
32bit or 64bit versions. I currently run 64bit and I like the ability to run
a game locally, have another user profile loaded in the background and use
Media Center (from my Xbox) all at the same time. I do run some games
locally but you should check and see if the games you plan to run will work
well on Vista. Lately, I have been playing Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends
alot. It works great in 1280x1024.

Re: Buying Vista

Currently I'm triple booting into XP, Vista32 and Vista64 and overall, I
can't recommend Vista64 at this time. If I'm going to have a problem and a
BSOD, it's going to be under Vista64. I'm currently playing the Vista ready
game Supreme Commander and it's given me 2 BSODs and 3 CTDs since I've
played it under Vista64. Under XP, I've played just as much, as I've gotten
1CTD.

It's a driver issue I'm sure. Probably video.

I also would suggest holding off another couple of months on getting vista,
has their are plenty of little problems here and there with the different
drivers. Creative's Soundblaster drivers are still in beta and technically
so are the drivers for nVidia and there are a slew of unhappy nVidia owners
right now!

I assume you're planning on going to 4GB of ram soon ? As if you're not,
there isn't much value in going to Vista64 either. Since their isn't any
DX10 games actually out yet, and there are varous driver issues still
getting ironed out, I'd strongly suggest holding off as long as possible, or
you could buy a 2nd hard drive and dual boot between Xp and Vista until
you're ready to be a pure Vista gamer.

There is a forums a fellow created a little while back called
www.vistareadygames.com where people post games that they have working. I've
posted all the games that I got to run under Vista32 and Vista64. Others
have as well. Might want to check out that site to make sure all you're
games are jamming.

If you scour theorugh these and other forums, you see alot of people having
issues with various games at this point. I'm not hell bent on stopping you
from going to Vista, just trying to make sure you don't rush in, only to be
posting in the vista.General forums asking how to go back to XP in 3-4
weeks. Be sure to check all you're hardware that you'll be using, Keyboards,
Mice, Printers, joysticks for Vista drivers and\or Vista problems
