| Guest | No Sound (F.E.A.R and Extraction Point Expansion Pack) - Vista Ultimate Edition I have an integrated SoundMax card. Running on a Intel motherboard (D865PERC). Sound works fine up until the point of actual game play and then it goes away. The first level loads up, but there is no music, sound effects, etc. Just video. Any thoughts on this one? Has anyone else seen this? -Thx |

| Guest | Re: No Sound (F.E.A.R and Extraction Point Expansion Pack) - Vista Ultimate Edition Any reason you don't grab a Soundblaster card ? For as little as $50-75$ you can get a better soundcard, that off-loads some of the CPU cycles. Outside of that, I'd look around and see if you can fine some updated soundmax audio drivers for your mobo. I've done quite a bit of testing in FEAR an not had any problems with Sound dropping out. Though I have the Creative X-FI, not that it's perfect under vista, as the drivers are still in beta mode for it. More than likely, it's something you might have to live with the next couple of months, until everyone gets their drives cleaned up. I'm still partial to suggesting a SoundBlaster card though ![]() <kilik3000@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1173322351.158794.146700@q40g2000cwq.googlegroups.com... >I have an integrated SoundMax card. | Guest | Re: No Sound (F.E.A.R and Extraction Point Expansion Pack) - Vista Ultimate Edition Hi I would agree to this! Get A SB Card to give you better sound and thereby helping the CPU. I have had so many problems with HD drivers on Vista. Different versions just will not work. I got a version ALC880 that is working now (Version 1.56/9) I think. But still have major issues getting all the speakers, headset and Microphone working the way I want. So I also got the Creative X-FI now, and disabled the onboard stuff as much as possible in the bios. Sound Is A Huge Improvement! I agree drivers will get better. NIKE! Just Do It! Enjoy =[SAF]=SN1P3R www.safclan.co.za <kilik3000@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1173322351.158794.146700@q40g2000cwq.googlegroups.com... >I have an integrated SoundMax card. | Guest | RE: No Sound (F.E.A.R and Extraction Point Expansion Pack) - Vista Ult I have had the same problems with Battlefield 2142 on Vista Ultimate. I have seen some posts that relate the problem in the games to the frame rate (FPS) that the video card (mine is an ATI x850) is delivering. I have updated the latest Vista video and sound drivers and noticed some improvement. I turned the graphics all the way down and the frequency up to 85. This has improved things some. But I am intrigued that some of the sound problem may actually be coming from synching with the video in the game. That may be why the sound problem is so much more pronounced with 3D games rather than regular audio playback. The next move I will make is to switch from DVI to VGA or maybe even S-VHS out for the monitor. "kilik3000@gmail.com" wrote: > I have an integrated SoundMax card. | Guest | Re: No Sound (F.E.A.R and Extraction Point Expansion Pack) - Vista Ult What sound card are you using ? I don't know that I've ever had any real sound choppines in video games, unless it was due to a problem in the game. Though I'll admit, I've always used Sound Blast cards and I upgrade every 2 generations, Live ! to Audigy 2 to X-FI. A good sound card off-lonads work from the CPU, which is probably where you're getting the choppines. Cutting down teh graphics and other things, is probably freeing up CPU cycles that can be spent on sound. But in Supreme command, you only get 3-50 fps and there's not dropping of sound or sound becoming out of sync. My guess is that it's just bad sound drivers in vista, followed by an under powered sound card and a over-worked CPU. X-FI for everyone ! | Guest | Re: No Sound (F.E.A.R and Extraction Point Expansion Pack) - Vista I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2. My Vista rating is 4.2 but that is from the processor. My gaming and video score was 5.4. I downloaded the Creative Vista Driver updates available March 9, 2007. I went to tweakguide com and set my sound card, video card all to the settings for weak computers. I then went to their recommended Battlefield 2142 settings for weak computers. Now what I notice is that game play is fine but that the sound drops out every few seconds. This is regardless of the source. The Creative support web site is getting flamed for all the problems that people are having with the Vista drivers. I went to stores and could find no sound card with a vista logo on it. I think that the only solution will be to get a sound card that has a vista logo on it and that may not be until April 2007 or so. "Dale M. White" wrote: > What sound card are you using ?
