| | Re: oblivion in vista It may be your graphics card drivers. Have you gone to the NVIDIA site and downloaded the latest drivers? I know they still have some issues, though. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com -- "kronos" <kronos@home.nl> wrote in message news:%23ZzXdPzaHHA.2300@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >I was just wondering if anyone else has problems with running oblivion >under vista. > Cause most of the time i fast travel or use a gate my pc freezes up. > > I know i got enough ram, cause i have 4 gig, and it can't be my graphic > card. | | Re: oblivion in vista New hardware + New OS = Problems... Remember Oblivion came out before Vista, probably not tested too much on Vista either. Try the usual troubleshooting like Running in Compatibility Mode, Running as Administrator, Running with UAC (User Account Control) turned off, etc. http://www.bethsoft.com/ is your friend, what better place than the guys who made the game to get answers to [possibly] common questions? Quick look came back with only 1 FAQ Question regarding Vista and Oblivion... http://support.bethsoft.com/asp/reso...tion&rid=24845 Basically they state that Oblivion came out before Vista, ergo, no support. They also note that Downloadable content is not compatible with Vista, though they may just be talking about the 64-bit Vista. Q: Is Oblivion supported on Windows Vista? A: We do not formally support Vista as Oblivion is not a Games for Windows title. Our internal tests -- and external tests done by outside parties -- have not found any issues with Oblivion on Vista. Should you have problems, it's not something we support or can help you with. The secured installers for downloadable Oblivion content are not compatible with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows or any version of Windows Vista and therefore downloadable content will not work with Oblivion. not too helpful, I know, but you could ALWAYS run Virtual PC 2007, install your old Windows XP copy into Vista. Your system seems beefy enough that I'm sure Oblivion would run OK in a virtual enviornment (Oblivion runs great on my system with all settings turned up, and i'm nowhere near at your level of power). Good luck. Cause it is a xfx8800gtx nvidia 768 mb. This is probably down to the graphics drivers, or some other drivers. You could try pulling out a stick of RAM too, maybe doing a memory test. I'm running Oblivion here with no more issues than it had under XP. (Alt+Tab can make the thing explode, the odd application failure when exiting). -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. | | Re: oblivion in vista Hi, just letting you know i've had no problems with oblivion (apart from not being able to use downloadable content) with vista My setup is... Vista home premium 64bit nVidia 7900GTX AMD dualcore 4000+ 2gb ram It certinally plays a little slower then it did in XP - but fully functions OK, have you got the latest patch 1.2 installed for oblivion? Cheers - Nathan "kronos" <kronos@home.nl> wrote in message news:%23ZzXdPzaHHA.2300@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... I was just wondering if anyone else has problems with running oblivion under vista. | | Re: oblivion in vista I am also having no trouble at all running Oblivion, along with dozens of downloadable mods, but I have the 32bit Home Premium Vista, and an ATI Radeon X1600. | | Re: oblivion in vista You could download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and install Windows XP into it. From there, you could install Oblivion and the downloadable content that you paid for. Of course, the game won't play but the DLC installer should install just fine in an emulated environment. After that, just share a folder through VPC'07 and copy the unpacked plugin files into your Oblivion\Data folder in your Windows Vista x64 environment. | Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: oblivion in vista My Problem is a bit different. After I Installed Oblivion, I just started up the game, went thrrough the Character-generation process and wanted then to use this door to "the sewers", but everytime i try to use ist, it loads up, i can hear the Sound of the new environment coming up, and then it just shuts down. I`m running Oblivion on a laptop: Vista Home Premium 32bit Core 2 Duo CPU T5270 2*1.4Ghz 2 gig RAM The System was able to run the whole character-generation-level without any errors on a medium performance level, so I know itīs able to tun on it. But I canīt get out of the Character-generation.... If anybody has a clue of what to do, i would be really happy. |

But I canīt get out of the Character-generation.... Laptops just have crappy video cards usually, espically for games, drop the settings, make sure your laptop is getting good air flow, update video and audio drivers from the manufacturers website (no idea what notebook you have, model number would help). 1.4ghz processor, even a dual core, is pretty slow. Should be ok. Minimum specs from the Bethesda site are: * Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit * 512MB System RAM * 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor * 128MB Direct3D compatible video card * and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver; * 8x DVD-ROM drive * 4.6 GB free hard disk space * DirectX 9.0c (included) * DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card * Keyboard, Mouse http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_faq.htm They recommend 2ghz single core, so 1.4ghz dual core is kindda pushing it. might have to check to make sure your video card is setup with 128megs vram, usually you can change this in your computer's BIOS. It's not the video aperature setting, but there should be a video card shared ram setting. Make sure it's at least 128megs. Good luck buddy. -- Joe |
