| | Vista running Steam My computer build is mother bored P5P800 Pentium4 3.0ghz 2G RAM Nvidia 7600GS The problem I have right now is when I play CSS or HL2 or any of the games from Steam. I'll be getting average of 15fps and 70Choke on FPS with 10lost every sec... even when I turn down the setting to the lowest. I went on Nvidia and up date the latest version, but still the problem was there. I tried to installing the CD that came with the video card but it wasn't compatible...any ideas how to fix this problem |

| | Re: Vista running Steam Well, note that nVidia is having problems with their drivers under Vista. The 7 and 8 families seem to be getting the worst of it. You problem seems fair extreme, even for the driver issue. Did you try running the game as administrator ? (right click on te desktop shortcut for steam and choose Run As administrator. Also check your windows firewall settings, might also consider turning it off for a bit.. I've played a fair amount of CS, CSS and HL2:EP1 and I can tell you it does work fine under Bista. One difference is I have an ATI card. The only nVidia card I have is a 6800GT, and I don't have any issues with it either, though I haven't tested as much with it "Joe Lo" <Joe Lo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6F22B099-8950-4B90-8CDE-09E66D239638@microsoft.com... > My computer build is > mother bored P5P800 > Pentium4 3.0ghz > 2G RAM > Nvidia 7600GS > The problem I have right now is when I play CSS or HL2 or any of the games > from Steam. | | Re: Vista running Steam I believe in the Control Panel you can find this information. Open up the control panel and under help, select System Information. What you want to look for is the ForceWare version number. Now, mind you, this is me looking at it from XP on my laptop. My Vista machine has an ATI card and Half Life 2 screams at full detail at 1280x1024. When I had an nVidia card, I ran into a multitude of issues, such as videos not displaying correctly (such as in Neverwinter Nights) and poor performance compared to ATI, so I switched to an ATI X1950 Pro and I've been happy ever since. The issue is definitely the drivers. nVidia is still working on them. It just seems that ATI has a better set of drivers in my honest opinion. Otherwise, there's not much that can be done other than constantly checking the nVidia web site to see if they've updated their drivers lately. | | Re: Vista running Steam They don't make it very easy to find. You can go to Control panel, and then nVidia control panel, then go to help and choose System information. The first line in the right pane is forceware version, which should be something like 101.65 or 111.41 "Ivan Samuelson" <IvanSamuelson@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:285039F3-F817-4FFD-8586-71B199A17485@microsoft.com... >I believe in the Control Panel you can find this information.
