3d Pinball Space Cadet

I see this game is no longer included with Windows. (I have Vista Home
Premium.) Will this game work under Vista? If so, where can I download it?
If this won't work with Vista, does Microsoft have anything similar I can
download?

It is not for download, but you can copy the entire directory from Windows
XP to your program directory on your Vista partition.

Re: 3d Pinball Space Cadet

Actually, someone posted what the name of the full game is. Thought they
said they bought it for like 5.99 or something. Might try a Google search if
you're that interested

Re: 3d Pinball Space Cadet

ok here is the real truth. lots of people are saying that space cadet is not available for download. at this time that is sort of true. a demo version is available. it is called full tilt. look up 3d pinball. you only get one ball. however some months back with extensive search and i wish i saved the page. it was a microsoft page and downloaded space cadet for vista final edition. Miracle of miracles i saved the download file. unlike full tilt it is the full version that was available in xp and i did get it from microsoft and i checked extensively and it is no longer available. there is one question i have. there was a demo pinball game from microsoft. it had great sound and great effects. its called microsoft pinball arcade. i know it works on xp. but with vista it says it cant find directx 5. it doesnt recognize directx 10. any workarounds.

Well I haven't tried this with DirectX 5, but I have a DirectX 3 game
running in Vista.

If you run the DXWEBSETUP.EXE installer
(http://www.microsoft.com/directx is where you get it from) it'll update
your DirectX files. If all your DirectX files are up to date, you should
be able to run DirectX 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 10.1 games.

Basically DirectX 10.1 is backwards compatible with all previous
DirectXs.

That is, it SHOULD be. I have NO idea if Microsoft has dropped
compatibility for older DirectX versions, but I see no reason why they
would at this time. The files should be there, assuming the game can
find them then it should work.

If it does not, most game CDs come with a DirectX folder on the CD which
usually contains a bunch of CAB files with all the DirectX files for
that game, extract the files (7zip usually can pull files out of CABs if
they aren't encrypted) to your game folder (not your system32 folder),
and try the game again.

Problem is Vista might not like old Windows .DLLs and could freak out.

I'm just guessing here, I've never tried this, but if you are really
desperate to get this going let me know, you'll have to send me a copy
of the game (piracy HO!) or something so I can check it out. I assume
someone may have another suggestion in a moment (ain't the Interweb
great?)
