Are there games that will run on Vista 64bit?

Are there currently any games available designed to run on Vista 64 bit. Or
non 64 bit games that will work well? I wandered in to Best Buy the other
day, and the games sales person told me not for at least two years . . .
Huh?

Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
Intel Core 2 6600 2.4 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
4GB Memory

Re: Are there games that will run on Vista 64bit?

Let's see: Far Cry has a 64 Bit patch for it, I know of. I think HL2 has a
64bit version, as well. There are a few others, too, but I can't recall...

Most 32Bit games will run on the 64 Bit version of Vista.

Re: Are there games that will run on Vista 64bit?

He's right, it will probably be another 2-3 years before there is a "need"
to create a 64bit game. Too much extra support work, for a small crowd and
the 32bit games normally work just as good under 64bit OS. And a fair number
of 32bit games work under Vista64. If you go over to Vistareadygames.com,
you can see my post on the games I run under Vista64. I'll even go out on a
limp and say, if it works well under Vista 32, it has a 99% chance of
working well under Vista64

Far Cry has a 64bit version you can download, if you already have the 32bit
version. I thought there was another game like Kuma or something that was
also 64bit. But the true 64bit games are not there

The quick list is of the games I have or tested

Battlefield 1942, 2 and 2142
FEAR
Supreme Commander
Rise of Legends
I briefly tested Tigers Woods 2007
Steam games, Like HL2 and Sin
FarCry32 and 64
Dawn of Warark Crusade
Act of War
Quake 2
Doom3
STALKER
Command and Conquer 3
LOTR:Battle for Middle-earth 2
Call of Duty
Age of Empires 3

Note I didn't play the older games or the RTS games on-line. I namely play
BF2 and 2142 on-line

Re: Are there games that will run on Vista 64bit?

Until Steam\Valve fixes the slow performance in HL2 64bit, I'm not counting
them.

Here is a list I found at www.start64.com

a.. Half-Life 2
b.. Lost Coast
c.. Bet On Soldier: Blood Sport
d.. Codename: Panzers (Phase one)
e.. Colin McRae Rally 2005
f.. Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
g.. Far Cry
h.. Fahrenheit
i.. Shadow Ops: Red Mercury
j.. Unreal Tournament 2004
k.. World of Warcraft
l.. WWII Tank Commander
m.. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
n.. Dreadnought
I'll have to examine Stalker more, has it shows me it's 32bit.

Re: Are there games that will run on Vista 64bit?

For me, It auto-detected I was running Vista 64, and then started
downloading some STEAM updates and then whenever I run HL2 or HL2:Loast Cost
it will say 64Bit version in the upper left corner when you start.

Best I can tell, is if you play other games, Like Sin or HL2:EP1 it is still
in 32bit mode. Which is good for me, since it plays better (faster
framrates) then hte 64bit

Re: Are there games that will run on Vista 64bit?

Yes, BF2142 is what I have played the most and other than slow logins, I
haven't had any issues that I can notice under Vista 64 and BF2 or 2142.

Re: Are there games that will run on Vista 64bit?

I was having no issues with BF 2142 after the punkbuster fix of switching to
admin but now it will not work again. I connect to the game find a server to
join and half way through the connection process the game crashes and windows
shuts it down. So I am assuming one of my updates reconfigured something and
now BF2142 will not work on my Vista Ultimate machine.
