    RE: XP games to Vista

I lost the ability to play any of my Might and Magic games when I upgraded to
Windows Vista. However, I was able to fix all but one by upgrading my video
    card to a radeon x1300/x1500.
I am still having trouble with might and magic IX however which still does
not seem to be compatable with Windows Vista at all. (The screen does not
refresh between "Loading" screens.) Can anyone offer any suggestions to this
    problem?

The problem with Might and Magic IX not refreshing after the load screen is
a definite bug. Fortunately there is a workaround, do an alt-tab, then
alt-tab back into the game and it should come right up.

If you are having problems with the other ones, check my online help page
for getting the Might and Magic games working, its at:

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip Mark but this still does not work. Now instead of the
loading screen I simply get a black screen with a Might and Magic IX
window/border around it. Thanks for trying to help.

Sorry it didn't work. If you come up with a solution let me know and I will
    post it on the web-page.
MMIX does seem to be very display-driver-setting sensitive. You might try
turning off all of your 3d settings (i.e. anti-aliasing, anistropic
filtering, etc.) and see if that helps.

    Re: XP games to Vista

I saved my saved games to my desktop and reinstalled the game the way you say
to at your web site. This time however I did not install the 1.3 patch (only
the 1.2 patch.) I also changed my screen resolution to 800 by 600 with 32
bit color. Now the alt+tab trick works. It takes a while (half a minute to
three minutes (in one instance,)) but the game so far does manage to get past
    the loading-screen glitch.
I also removed all of the graphic extras provided by the game
(tripple-buffering, one pass, shadows, environmental mapping, etc.) but I am
so far hesitant to reactivate them. I do not yet know if any of them were
    interfereing with the loading glitch.

Thanks Mark, at least it is now working thus far.

I experimented with the video settinigs, and I found it is the "optimize surfaces" option that causes the error. I have unchecked optimize surfaces and trillinear, and now alt+tab works.
