| System Shock 2 Old game, but I'm still playing ![]() Anyone had much luck getting LGVID.AX (which is the codec that plays the System Shock 2 Movies) to correctly install in Vista? I tried the XP fix which is basically to call, "regsrv32 c:\sshock2\lgvid.ax", but in Vista it gives me an error when I attempt to do this (I can figure out the exact error if anyone needs it). I also tried dropping the file into System32, or just adding sshock2 to the Windows Path. The game runs just fine, only the videos don't play (Intro, transitions between bases at the start of the game, etc.). I recall the videos use a version of the Indeo codec, but it uses an old version such that if I install the current version of Indeo (supported by Lingos) that it doesn't work. Thanks in advance guys, I'll check back tomorrow and see if anyone has any ideas. Maybe a registry entry that calls the codec correctly (LGVID.AX) Thanks much, Andy |

| Re: System Shock 2 When you try to register that AX file, are you running it from an Elevated Command Prompt ? Which means opening the command prompt with Run As Administrator ? Or Do you have the UAC turned off, while trying to register that file ? | Re: System Shock 2 Good question, what's an Elevated Command Prompt and how do you start one? I think UAC is off, but hey pretend I'm an idiot, give me a step by step for that followed by a suggestion if that doesn't work. Ever played System Shock 2 Dale, or just telling me about possible registration problems? Great game though... Highly recommend it. -A "Dale White" <dale.white@NOinsightbb.NOcom> wrote in message news:Ol5lTPXoHHA.4188@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > When you try to register that AX file, are you running it from an Elevated > Command Prompt ? | Re: System Shock 2 Glad you got a fix. No I missed System Shock on it's first released. I tried to play it after I read it made 10 scariest games of all time, but the game is just too old looking and I couldn't get in to it. That's the problem with playing all the coolest games, when I try to go back, I can't stop focusing on how ugly the game is. I might give it 1 more try, if I can remember where I put the disks "Andy" <Android8675@NOSPAMhotmail.com> wrote in message news:7CA9B28A-4DC3-4373-8108-E20A47E01383@microsoft.com... > Oops, Fixed the System Shock 2 Video problem! > > Thanks Dale, should of tried your suggestion, or at least attempted. | Re: System Shock 2 Well if you can't get past the low poly models (I have trouble myself), you could try the "Rebirth" mod, it's a fan mod that updates the models with a slightly higher polycount, and SHTUP is a texture update making everything much cleaner. Kind of tricky to get working, basically you extract some zip files to the sshock2 folder and that's it. The files you'll want are below including the official patch, unofficial WinXP patch, the stuff I mentioned above and a sound update that makes the guns sound a bit more realistic. Turn the lights down when you play and try to forget the opening video is 320x200, and use an EAX soundcard and headphones. This goes for everyone here, if you've never played this game, shame on you. ;-) http://www.strangebedfellows.de/inde...opic,12.0.html - Official SS2 patch http://files.moddb.com/1639/download...winxp2000-fix/ - WinXP fix http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php?topic=8.0 - Rebirth "Complimented" mod http://shtup.home.att.net/ - SHTUP (Shock Texture Upgrade Project) mod http://www.strangebedfellows.de/inde...opic,25.0.html - SS2 Straylight ADaoB v0.2.5 (The unofficial second patch) mod http://www.strangebedfellows.de/inde...pic,168.0.html - Drivers for x-fi or just about any card that EAX hardware acceleration won't work with. Those sites you can find all sorts of info about the game. I wouldn't say i'm a fanatic, it's just one of my favorite games. Can't wait for Bioshock! -Andy "Dale White" <dale.white@NOinsightbb.NOcom> wrote in message news:%23saQI7goHHA.3968@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > > Glad you got a fix. | Re: System Shock 2 Joy, because i'm on a dual core, System Shock 2 freaks out after a few minutes of play. FYI, if anyone is having this problem I think there's a fix, which I can't locate, and I guess you can set a program to use a single core somehow? Anyone know how? Heard it had something to do with task manager?
