Problems running games on Vista

I have Age of Empires 3 and Civilization 4 on my computer but for some reason
when I load them the mouse cursor disappears. Obviously you can not play the
games without the mouse so how do I fix this?

Re: Problems running games on Vista

Make sure you have the newest drivers for your video card. AoE3 should work
out of the box with no patches (but patches do fix the other things!). I've
got it running on several Vista machines.

Since it is happening with both games, I suspect the video driver.

Re: Problems running games on Vista

I checked the drivers out on the site and it tells me that everything is up
to date. This computer is only a week old also and its a Dell XPS 410 with a
256mb ATI Radeon X1300. Intell dual duo core 6600 2.4GHZ thingy majig with
500GB ATA Serial II 7200 RPM. Now from my understanding this thing should
breeze through this stuff with no effort at all since its built for gaming.
So what the hell. I only really posted all that cuz im hoping it might help
one of you experts fix my problem. Anymore suggestions before the game goes
flying through the window?

RE: Problems running games on Vista

I dont need to update my video drivers according to Vista. This computer is
only a week old and its top of the line XPS 410 with just about every upgrade
in hardware and software. This thing was built for gaming specifically but
its not doing its job. Isnt there anyone that can help me before this thing
goes flying out the window?

Re: Problems running games on Vista

This may sound silly, but if you change mouse pointer scheme, does the
cursor then appear in your games?

Re: Problems running games on Vista

I am running AOE 3 on vista ultimate with no patches. I would also suspect
video card drivers as the likely culprit.

Chris

Re: Problems running games on Vista

I have similar problem with Doom3. My cursor runs out of screen, and i can't
control it. Patch can't fix it. Drivers up to date. E6600, abit ab9pro,
400giga samsung, 8800gts 320mb. STALKER goes nice. Any solutions or ideas?
On the end i installed dual boot with XP and i use xp for gaming and all
works great. So if you have problems with games on vista install xp for
gaming if you can. But it should run on Vista.

I've experienced a different mouse problem. When I boot my computer,
my mouse doesn't want to work properly. I roll it over buttons on the
desktop (such as Start) and the buttons do not highlight. I also
cannot left click on most objects. But if I do a CTRL-ALT-DEL, then
right click on the background of the menu screen, then click CANCEL -
it works normally! I don't know why this works, but it seems to give
the mouse driver a good stiff kick. Perhaps it will work for you?

Yeah, I know, it's a longshot. But it's worth a try.
