| | Chess Titans bug Hi, For starters, if this is in the wrong place or it would be better suited somewhere else, I apoligize profusely. Chess Titans has been working fine for me for the two weeks that I've owned Vista, but as I was playing a round of the game, an enemy pawn made an illegal move. What happened is I moved my pawn from G7 to G5, and there was an enemy pawn at H5. Then on the CPU's turn, it captures that pawn that was on G5 by moving to G6. At first I thought it could have been my not watching very closely and clicking G6 with my pawn instead of G5--but I undid that move and tried again. The computer shows my pawn on G5, and then when it moved--that G5 pawn was captured and the enemy was on G6. I've been looking around Microsoft's website in search of a patch or something, but I haven't been able to find anything. Any and all help would be appreciated. |

Chess, greatest game ever, just when you think you completely understand it... ya learn something new. Come on peeps this is the second gameplay bug post in the same week! Does anyone honestly think there's any chess program out there that would allow illegal moves? I mean come on... it's Chess. I made a chess program in PASCAL back in college using opensource code and it worked great, no cpu, but I was just learning. ![]() -Andy p.s. if Chess Titans isn't doing it for ya there are a ton of chess games, just Google something like "Chess PC Software". Might want to add in +Vista because most programs I came across didn't have Vista listed. You can get Chessmaster 9000 downloaded for like $10 from the Ubisoft store. |

| | Re: Chess Titans bug maybe I missed something but I thought the rules of the game state that a pawn can only capture a piece that is diagonal not when it is beside it. It goes as follows: 1. A player moves his pawn two squares, from his second row to his fourth row. 2. There is a pawn of the opponent that can capture at the squares that is passed over by the pawn. 3. In that case, this pawn of the opponent has the right to capture en passant in the directly following move. 4. To capture en passant, the opponents pawn goes to the square passed over by the pawn (i.e., the square on the third row), thus moving diagonally forwards. The captured pawn is taken from the board. In otherwords, if 2 pawns line up side by side, on the NEXT move your opponent has the option to move behind your pawn and your pawn bites the big one. Not to mention your opponents pawn has a nice line of sight with your back lines. http://www.chessvariants.org/d.chess/enpassant.html Damn dude, Chess has been around for centuries, if "Big Blue" couldn't mess it up, what makes you think todays computing powerhouses will? It's CHESS, if a computer makes a cool move that you've never seen before, assume it's a valid move. Note that this quote from chessvariants.org says, "under specific rules", you might see if there's an option in Chess Titans to turn off En passant. -A. |
