Vista - Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

This is getting frustrating. I play Halo 2 for a while and then it will ask
for the original disk. Well, the disk is in the DVD drive! If I answer yes
then it restarts the game at the last checkpoint, maybe, or it might start
me back where I started playing the game that session. That could me 2 hours
of game play to do over again.
Why is this happening and what can I do about it?

RiverDog.

Can you confirm that Halo 2 is fully installed, and that you're not making
changes to the Halo 2 directory?

Re: Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

It's as I said Paul. I'm just playing the game. I followed the install
routine for Halo 2 and it fully installed as far as I know. I have not
touched the Halo 2 directory.

cheers, RiverDog

The Halo 2 installer runs while its playing, once its finished you shouldn't
need the disc at all. Are you getting prompted to enter the disc when you
first start playing too?

If its being problematic, try uninstalling and it using a custom install see
if that gets it going.

Re: Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

Thanks for responding Ken but I have no idea what you are talking about.
Nothing asks for the next level. I only get a message: "Sorry Insert your
original Halo 2 game disk

Re: Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

Paul, I have done full install of the game, then I play it. I am not
prompted to enter the disc when I first start playing. I tried uninstalling
it and reinstalling which resulted, strangely enough, in the game starting
at the point I was at in the game 2 days ago. Then I worked through the game
to the end of "shooting gallery" and at the end of the cut scene where Keyes
gets the icon the screen goes white and then blue and asks me for the
original Halo 2 game disk. This is the same behavior as I first described.
It's as if the game has not fully installed.

Re: Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

RiverDog,

I have having the same exact same problem in exactly the same place. I have
also found others on the Bungie Forums that are also having the same
problems. I bought my copy at Circuit City that was selling them early
before the recall. Did you get your's early as well?

If it's a problem with the disk, which it probably is, Microsoft should make
a patch or do something to fix this since it is not an isolated problem.

Re: Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

Thanks for this CV. I did get mine as early as I could, so I may need a
patch. I'm having trouble finding a reference to this problem in the Bungee
Forums. Would you direct me to one please?

Re: Halo 2 requests original install disk randomly.

Here is a link to a post on Bungie that I replied to:

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=11382549

Here is a post on halo2pc.org that I found that also have a suggestion on
how to get around the problem. I will try that shortly when I get home from
work.
