BF2 Point of Existence Mod

I am running Vista 32 bit and trying to download the Point of Existence mod
for Battlefield
2(http://silo1.hypernia.net/pointofexi...ull-client.zip).
After I dowload the file and try to extract the zip I receive an error
message that reads, "Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination
file could not be created." I downloaded Zip Reader and managed to unzip the
file but when I attempted to install it I received an NSIS error message
saying, "The installer you are trying to use is corrupt or incomplete." I
have tried downloading the file from numerous sources just to make sure it
wasn't a corrupt file problem and I have also used Free Download Manager but
nothing has helped.

If anyone has an idea what I can do to fix the problem I would appreciate
the help.

Hi Churella2, I downloaded it from here
http://pointofexistence2.hypernia.net/ then used extract all and popped the
file on my desktop then just double clicked it and it installed fine, no
neede for admin mode or compat mode, My BF2 is patched up to 1.41 and I dont
use any NOCD cracks etc, I also opened the zip file and did a plain copy of
the file and then pasted it in another location just to see and that also
was fine.

> Thanks for the reply Scotty. I also downloaded the mod from Hypernia but unfortunately when I try to extract all to my desktop(or anywhere else) I still receive an error message. It goes through the download process just fine but at the end the error message pops up and reads, "Unexpected error preventing operation. Error 0x80004005:Unspecified error" I'm not sure what's going on with my version of Vista but I have been having download problems since I first installed it. Especially with BF2. I am the only user on this pc. I have my os installed(clean install) on a WD Raptor 34gig hard drive and I try to save most of my downloads to a much larger drive. The Raptor has about 14 gigs of free space on it. I feel as though I might have something set up incorrectly since there are others like you that aren't having the some kind of download problems. Since I'm the only user on this system I am running everything as the Admin. I'm not even using a password to access the pc.

Can you think of anything obvious that I'm doing wrong?

no all seems fine that you have mentioned...what I would try though, can you
get a friend to download the Mod and pop it on a pen drive or a disk an see
if it will install and we can take it from there?

I saved it to my desktop like you suggested and it extracted just fine. I can't figue out why it would make a difference saving it to my desktop instead of a folder on one of my drives but it did. It extracted like it was supposed to and appeared to be working fine. I was stoked at that point and tried to log into a server but then things went south again. When I tried to log into a server I received the message that my "cd key is invalid." I experienced this same problem before when I tried to install BF2 after I installed Vista. Just like before I had to go into the actual registry of the game and manually input the cd key. For some reason it gets corrupted when I install the game or any patches/mods. Any clue what causes that? I don't know how Vista savy you are but maybe you can explain why I'm having so many download problems with Vista

whereas I never experienced these issues with XP. It's pretty confusing to me.

Thanks for the help. I've litterally been working on this problem for about
a week and was about to give up. I just got online and played PoE for a few
minutes and it's the best BF2 mod I've seen. Thanks again.

Yup I had a play, it really is brilliant..anyways..I had a dig about and
found there are a few people having the same issues with BF2 and Vista and
this fix seems to have sorted them out...good luck.

Sometimes a conflict in the updated files can prevent the game from properly
identifying your CD-key. Usually, refreshing your CD-key will resolve the
issue. Note that this will only correct the error if you used the same
Windows account to install, patch, and troubleshoot the game. If you have
switched Windows accounts at any point it is recommended you uninstall,
reinstall, and repatch using the same Windows login.

If you have Battlefield 2

Click Start.
Go to Run.
Type regedit and hit OK button.
Click on plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click on plus sign next to SOFTWARE.
Double click on Electronic Arts folder.
Double click on EA Games folder.
Double click on Battlefield 2 folder.
Double click on ergc folder.
Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
Right click on it and select Modify.
Type in x9392 and then your CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens.

Example: x9392(your Battlefield 2 CD key here)
If you have Battlefield 2: Special Forces

Click Start.
Go to Run.
Type regedit and hit OK button.
Click on plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click on plus sign next to SOFTWARE.
Double click on Electronic Arts folder.
Double click on EA Games folder.
Double click on Battlefield 2 folder.
Double click on ergc folder.
Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
Right click on it and select Modify.
Type in x9392 and then your Battlefield 2 CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens.
Double click on Battlefield 2 Special Forces folder.
Double click on ergc folder.
Data displayed will probably have x9392 only.
Right click on it and select Modify.
Type in x9392 and then your Battlefield 2 CD key.
note: don’t include hyphens.
note: do not use your Battlefield 2: Special Forces CD key.
Example: x9392(your Battlefield 2 CD key here)

That should fix it
