| | Re: BF2142exe has stopped working We really need more details. BF2142 falling over after 2 or 3 maps could be due to it running out of memory when it hits the 2GB app limit. What happens when you try and login? Application crash again? What changes have you made to the system, have you tried System Restore back to when it was working? What other applications are running. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. How do I restore back to when it was working? Also I have 2GB Corsair Pro PC2--6400 DDR2 800MHz ram.If I had more memory would this eliminate my problem? Thanks for reply too. | | Re: BF2142exe has stopped working I am having the exact same problem (see my thread "random game crashes"). I think that this crash has something to do with the latest nvidia forceware drivers (158.24), and it applies to ALL 3d hardware accelerated application (mostly games then...). 2gb ram is MORE than all current games need, and the crash is definetly NOT related to not having enough ram. More ram will NOT solve this. Have you tried turning of hardware acceleated sound (in bf2142), as this might eliminate drive3r conflicts (i have yet to cheack this). to find the error log, start search "event viewer" and look in errors>application to find the error logs. they SHOULD cite a source for the error, but probably will not in our case (mine just have a blank and say the error isnt there...) thanks "Longdog" wrote: > When I try to log in I get same message "BF2142exe"has stopped working.I made > no changes to pc. No, my thinking was the application was exceeding the limit. This has effected games like Supreme Commander and a few other memory intensive games. The way to check would be to monitor memory usage up until the game crashes, if the application alone breaks the 2GB limit it'll probably crash. To get around this it will need to be compiled with the large_address_aware flag, in conjunction with 64-bit Windows, or 32-bit Windows with the 3GB flag so applications can use more. Either way if you have the resource monitor running in the background while playing it, you'll be able to rule out that either way. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. Try Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. Is search working at all? Try a restore point before the early crashes started happening, that will help rule out software issues. I've searched across the internet but can't find any reports of BF2142 exceeding 2GB, so I think we can rule that out for now. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. | | Re: BF2142exe has stopped working MY RECCOMENDATIONS also try running other games/3d applications. to test for things other than graphics errors download Prime95 (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103) and run one instance of torture test per core in your cpu. if any faults are found then we can eliminate any graphics driver/card issues. if that doesnt show any errors try downloading 3dmark06 (http://www.futuremark.com/products/3dmark06/) assuming you have a working connction/lots of time. run both of them hope this helps "Paul Smith" wrote: > "Longdog" <Longdog@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:FEE361F9-8BB7-4B00-A63E-6C60BD39B13B@microsoft.com... > > W/system restore if you mean "start search"it doesn`t find it.Please type > > like I`m a moron because I am.And as far as large address aware where do I > > find how to do this?I have 32 bit Vista. Please don`t bail out on me.I`m > > trying and some of what you are suggesting is beyond my pc abilties . > > Try Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. > Is search working at all? > > Try a restore point before the early crashes started happening, that will > help rule out software issues. > > I've searched across the internet but can't find any reports of BF2142 > exceeding 2GB, so I think we can rule that out for now. > > -- > Paul Smith, > Yeovil, UK. > Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User. > http://www.dasmirnov.net/blog/ > http://www.windowsresource.net/ > > *Remove nospam. to reply by e-mail* > |
