| | Will I be able to play Battlefield 2142 if I upgrade to Windows Vi I have heard horror stories about people that are having so many problems playing Battlefield 2142 after trying to run the game with vista. Is this true? I am about to buy a new computer and dont know if I should by a computer running vista. |

I don't have any problems with Battlefield 2142 or Battlefield 2, they just need to be run as administrators due to Punkbuster. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. | | Re: Will I be able to play Battlefield 2142 if I upgrade to Window I have both games, and although I havent tried 2142 yet , bf2 runs great! I'm expecting bf2142 to run the same as its based on the same engine. I'm running vista ultimate, and my specs are: cpu: Athlon XP 2800+ (barton core) RAM: 2.25Gb pc 3200 Video: Geforce 6800 GS/XT (AGP 8X) Mobo: Gigabyte GA-7VT600 (socket A) HD: 30gb IDE (vista installed on this drive) and 500gb SATA (bf games on this drive) Sound: mobo onboard AC97 audio yeah i know i dont have "leet" hardware, but bf2, runs great with everything on "high" and AA set to max, with vista or xp pro. Dare I be so bold... this game runs better on vista ultimate than xp pro (old o/s). Yeah it says i have 1mb free ram (out of 2.25Gb!) but remember, vista dedicates some of the ram to video (6800 gs/xt has 256mb vido ram) giving me a total of over 500mb video ram, plus over 1.7gigs of ram is cached for programs (almost just like free ram) so really vista ultimate is taxing only 200mb more ram than XP pro. It boots @ about the same speed, and as far as i can tell, it actually runs FASTER. ie. when i open up the controll pannel. My base vista score is only 3.5, but for desktop prefromance with aro i've got 5.9 rating, and a 4.8 for gaming graphics rating. So its all up to A.) What version of vista you've got installed, and B.) What kind of hardware you've got "under the hood" As i wrote above i dont have the best hardware, but not the worst either. if you rig can compare / utterly defeat mine, i'm sure you'll be straight, as battlefield runs sweet on my comp with everything on max, plus full AA. |

I just got a laptop that was way over spec (my older desktop ran it fine other than the Punkbuster issues, and it was way under spec) that had Vista. I had been planning to install XP Pro after wiping the hard drive anyway, but wanted to play with Vista for a few days and see how well a few of my games ran. Long story short, after difficulties with EA Link to get the patch (it finished installing, but would not confirm, although it worked fine once I started the game). I loaded the game, ran it, maxed settings, and the first game I tried to join (single or multiplayer) crashed the program. I also lowered the settings, to no avail. The menu works fine, you just can't start the game. BF2142 tells you when installing that the game has not been tested in a 64-bit environment, so that's likely to be one issue. Other games work fine, and I'll be switching back to XP again so it's not an issue for me, al least not one that I'm going to spend any amount of time researching. I would contact each program's manufacturer if a Google search fails to provide enough noise for that program and see if they have been Vista tested and are known to be working. |

| | Re: Will I be able to play Battlefield 2142 if I upgrade to Windows Vi I run Vista Home Premium 32bit and play BF2142 a couple of hours every night. I dont seem to have any more probs than the the guys with XP who are online/headset with me on Teamspeak. I have fewer punkbuster issues than most of my XP buddies and no EA link issues. No lockups or crashes. I do have a pretty compatible setup (Audigy 2 ZS works well) and had to change a couple of video settings in BF2142 for complete stability. Found that out in the BF2142 forms. | | Re: Will I be able to play Battlefield 2142 if I upgrade to Window I have been playing Battlefield 2 on my PC running Windows Vista for over a year with only occasional problems I think having to do with graphic card drivers. Recently I had a hard drive crash and have had to reinstall the software including the latest BF2 patches. Now when I log in and select multiplayer then a server, I get an error " you are blocked for 0 minutes because you have inadequate O/S privileges. I am signed in as the administrator. From my searches, I think there is a security problem, but I have been unable to find a fix for the problem. I can play single player with out a problem. Can you suggest a fix or direct me to a site where I can find a fix? Thanks, Charlie "Paul Smith" wrote: Quote: > "Crusader" <Crusader@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:7AA8B924-64D1-474F-9794-AF13657AFC67@xxxxxx Quote: > >I have heard horror stories about people that are having so many problems > > playing Battlefield 2142 after trying to run the game with vista.
