| | Laptop reboots trying to play World of Warcraft Hi....I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5610-2013 laptop, has Windows Vista Home Premium,32bit operating system,Mobile Inter(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family card. The other day I bought the game World of Warcraft, and after logging in to play the game,2 minutes into the game, the laptop reboots itself.I diagnosed the problem and it said "problem caused by Intel Graphics Driver".I disabled the "reboot" in the control panel, then tried again, and this time the game went to a black screen and totally frooze up and was making a strange noise.I did a driver update and it's up to date and working properly.Any ideas as I am unable to return for refund where purchased. Thanks in advance for any replies and help. |

| | Re: Laptop reboots trying to play World of Warcraft well is seems obvious that there is a problem with the video driver. Laptops need high end video cards to play high end games. A good gaming laptop costs around 1800 dollars and up. WoW does NOT require a "High End" gaming laptop. WoW runs on a P3/800Mhz with any DirectX 9 compatible video card. The Intel 945G chipset is MORE than enough to run WoW. Notice that Punch said he was able to get into the game for 2 minutes before it locked? Yes, he can run the game, but the problem is his drivers are failing, or they stop working. This is "Sometimes" due to your video card overheating and failing. In other words your Notebook could have a bad video card or motherboard. Acer, while they have been around for a while now, are sorta "Bargin Bin" notebooks. Guessing you spent less than $500 for it, but this notebook can still easily run WoW (Why do you think WoW has 9 million subscribers? Because the game runs on just about ANYTHING, except u*ix) I assume you updated your Intel Video Card driver? If not, go to www.intel.com, find the downloads area, and look for Graphics Drivers in the left menu, you should be able to find the Notebook drivers for the 945G. Download and install the driver for Vista. (Make sure you make a system restore point before installing new drivers, Click Start button and type "System Protection", look for the button to make a restore point on your hard drive) Reboot, try WoW again. If you get the same failure, take your notebook wherever you bought it and have them test the Hardware. Tell them you suspect your video card is bad because it locks up when gaming. Don't let someone tell you the computer won't run games, because it will run WoW, but better to squish problems now before they get worse. Good luck, -A. |

| | Re: Laptop reboots trying to play World of Warcraft Andy, thanks for the great reply...as suspected,I did what you mentioned before I came back to see if anyone had replied, and I went to Intel's website,I udpated the Graphics Accelerator and all is fine now. As for the price of the laptop,I'm from Ontario Canada, bought it at staples and the price out the door was just over $1000 "Andy [Ex-MSFT]" wrote: > > "Punch_Buggy" <Punch_Buggy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:78832690-CE0E-4FB5-9051-1AAEC1B4EBC6@microsoft.com... > >> Hi....I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5610-2013 laptop, has Windows > >> Vista > >> Home Premium,32bit operating system,Mobile Inter(R) 945GM Express Chipset > >> Family card. The other day I bought the game World of Warcraft, and after > >> logging in to play the game,2 minutes into the game, the laptop reboots > >> itself.I diagnosed the problem and it said "problem caused by Intel > >> Graphics > >> Driver".I disabled the "reboot" in the control panel, then tried again, and > >> this time the game went to a black screen and totally frooze up and was > >> making a strange noise.I did a driver update and it's up to date and > >> working > >> properly.Any ideas as I am unable to return for refund where > >> purchased. Thanks > >> in advance for any replies and help. > > "BigJim" <bigjim@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:f5OdneI5664CIDHbnZ2dnUVZ_uSgnZ2d@comcast.com... > > well is seems obvious that there is a problem with the video driver. > > Laptops need high end video cards to play high end games. > > A good gaming laptop costs around 1800 dollars and up. > > WoW does NOT require a "High End" gaming laptop.
