Vista - Rainbow Six Vegas

I have gone through every forum and tech site I could find and cannot fix
this problem:

Game installed fine, patch 1.5 in. Get to to Multiplayer schreen, go to sign
in (I have other UBI games that run fine) and it says "SERVICE NOT
AVAILABLE"...I am not reaching the UBI game server.

Things I have done:
1. Made sure the Windows firewall recognized the game exe files.
2. Running them as administrator and set up for XP compatibility.
3. Shut down the firewall to see if that was the problem...no.
4. Shut down all spyware programs...not the problem.
5. Shut down all background programs...not the problem.
6. I DO NOT have a router.

I'm running Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and GRAW2 and both work with no
problem.

After two weeks of trying I'm lost.

Has anyone had this problem and found the answer?

I had that problem also. Exactally the same thing after i updated patch. I
did fix it.I had to uninstall the game and lose all saved game date and
reinstalled to fix it. The first time i reinstalled it I tried to keep my
saved game data but it has to go for it to work correctlly. Sorry brother I
feel your pain I was very close to finishing the single player game when it
happened to me. When you reinstall just let it auto patch itself.
