Have you tried Compatibility Mode?
Right click the icon
Click Properties
Click Compatibility tab
Adjust settings.

Check with the manufacturer of the game to see what they say about
Windows Vista compatibility.
Some may need a patch from the manufacturer.

Does your computer have the latest drivers, particularly video and
sound?

The Thing works fine on Vista here. Must be a problem with your PC.

Some games may need admin rights. Right click the game shortcut and select
run as administrator. Also the compatibility modes may fix them as the MVP
said.
