Install it using Admin Privileges. DON'T use "Run as XP Service Pack 2" in
the Compatibilities Tab Properties of the shortcut icon.

Make sure your firewall is not blocking your connection.

Open Control Panel and then Security Centre and then click the Firewall link
on the left. Then click "Allow a Program through the firewall"

Add this one and tick it to allow

C:\program files\activision\call of duty 2\cod2mp_s.exe

You need Punkbuster working and there have been a bunch of problems in the
last month with the Punkbuster updater. You may have to manually update
Punkbuster. If this is a problem and you can't get into a Server because
of a PB error, then grab this file

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

Run it and it will make sure your PB is working and it does a simulation
connection and checks everything OK.

Now after I double click the Multiplayer icon, my screen stays blank for 60
seconds and then gives the Multiplayer log-in screen. So don't think it is
not working, just leave it and see if it will come. I have a pretty high
end machine as well and 4 Gb RAM, so not sure what is going on in the 60
second start delay.

Finally, the game I bought was v1.2. There is a v1.3 Patch (as well as a
V1.2 Patch if yours is below 1.2). I was told to leave it on 1.2 and as it
is working fine, I have not updated

But the game plays fine, even though I get my arse whooped!

I updated the game to version 1.3, no problem at all.
Like Frenchy said, you have to run the game in administrator mode, otherwise
you get kicked by punkbuster, because piece doesnt have rights to write/read
on your harddisk while playing.

As a corollary to my previous post, I now have this also set to Win XP
compatibility in the Run Icon Properties. This with Admin Mode, means
start-up blank screen has gone from 60 seconds to 3 seconds.

My 12 year old Grandson gave me that tip to correct the delay!
