They're not "incompatible". They won't support DirectX 10.1 features in the
hardware.

The same as DirectX 8 parts don't do 9 on hardware, or the same as 9 doing
Shader Model 3 or whatever.

Yeah, but those who bought DX10 cards with some kind of long term usage in mind are pretty much screwed..and so quickly too. All those expensive 8800GTS/GTX/ultra and the X2900 series owners are not too happy I bet.

You're not screwed, geez don't be such a drama queen, SP1 isn't even out
yet. There's only like what.. 2 DirectX 10 games out right now? Anyone that
picked up a card thinking, "Now I get to play all those awesome DirectX 10
games," didn't do their homework now did they? I know if I was gonna buy a
$500 video card I'd make sure there was a damn good reason to buy it, and I
settled on a much cheaper 7900 for less than $100.

On the other hand just because you're not getting all your Dx10 wet dreams
coming true you have to admit the 8x00 series from nVidia are nice graphic
cards, native H.264 support is a good reason to buy one amongst other
niceities.

I don't think you guys have to throw out your video cards just yet. my Dx9
video card still runs Dx10 games like Company of Heroes, so I'm sure your
Dx10 cards will run Dx10.1 games, because the games will be backwards
compatible for YEARs from now.

I hate Microsoft, don't get me wrong, but you guys/gals are freaking out for
no reason.

No they aren't. Those cards support DX10 jut not the added features of
DX10.1. You want to stop people like me from getting the added benefits of
DX10.1 just because your card doesn't support DX10.1? This is how the it
works in the computer world, get used to it.

Do you realize how old Vista is already? That's the way things go if you
always want cutting edge. DX10 hardware sucks ass as of now anyway. Have
you seen the benchmarks?

benchmarks may suck, but so did DirectX 9 benchmarks when it first came out,
now for most Dx9 is a no-brainer. Dx10 isn't too bad, and the graphic
improvements are gaining more notice. Took at least a few years for DirectX
7 and 8 to be completely phased out in leiu of DirectX 9. I don't expect
DirectX 10 exclusive games to come out too soon, but nice to see a few game
devs using it.
