Vista - DirectX Error

I installed Call of duty 2 in my new Vista(Home premium) machine when it
is loading it pops out an error message saying

DirectX(R) encountered an unrecoverable error.

it seems that the game accecpts only directex 9.0c but vista comes with
directX 10.

I did the compatability trick but the result is the same can any one
solve this problem.

Yes, CoD2 only runs in DirectX 9, there is no Dx10 support for CoD2. If the
game fails to start download the DirectX updater from
http://www.microsoft.com/directx this will ensure that Vista can support
this DirectX 9 game.

Also unless you have an nVidia 8 series or ATi 2x00 HD series video card
DirectX 10 won't improve your game experience. For DirectX 10 you have to
have the video card, the OS and the Game all supporting DirectX 10 to work.
