Can't see Lan games in Vista

I have a network with Vista machines. They are on a Windows 2003
Server Domain. When we try to play LAN games, you can't see the
network games. The only way to connect is to use a direct IP address,
or to play an internet game.

Any help would be appreciated.

Guessing you have some security policy that blocks out certain ports or your
server it setup to limit certain aspects of network communication.

That's some big words for saying, I don't know, if you take the server out
the the equation can you connect that way?

Which game are you playing?

If he can connect via IP then it isn't a port issue.

What can I say, when it comes to networking I'm a novice, I just know how to
hookem up, connect to the domain, and password protect the wireless.

Been meaning to learn more, was able to sucessfully implement domain
security policies (2k server) recently, so I know a bit, but a lot of guess
work and internet searching is involved.

Best primer for a new admin, my first Minasi book was the Windows 2000 version of this one and it served me well. Additionally very good reading, but it does assume some knowledge. Keep plugging, it gets easier.

Re: Can't see Lan games in Vista

I tried connecting two machines directly to each other with a cable,
and same result. You can ping, use a direct IP, but not see the games
listed.
