Halo 2 running fine but no in game sound

Hi All
My Halo 2 is driving me mad, the game runs and plays fine but I can get no
sound during play. No audio output during start up and ony a little bit of
music v. quiet as new sections load, also no audio during animation sequences
- my other stuff runs fine sound is there but nothing with Halo2. Aaaaaaaaagh!
All my volumes PC and Game are Maxed so can only assume it must be some kind
of setting within game, any advice?

I've never played the game, but did you try to run as admin in XP SP2 mode?
It seemed to help my old Sigmatel onboard sound with problems similar to
what you mentioned. Bioshock stated Vista, but didn't get sound until I went
to XP mode.....

Re: Halo 2 running fine but no in game sound

Hi Dahlaine,

When you mention "my other stuff runs fine" do you mean other purchased
games, such as Halo1 or WOW or Doom3 or do you mean non-game stuff like
Media Player or even built-in stuff like Solitare?

What kind of sound card do you have or is it built-in, what driver version
does it have?

One thing I noticed was some audio problems when I tried the "Windows
Default" sound setting inside the Halo2 audio configuration screen. Try
setting it to 2-speakers (no matter what you have) and see if that helps
any. Otherwise, post your system specs, especially driver version, and
someone may be able to help

Hope that helps!
Mark

Game is "made for Vista" I don't think running the game as admin or in XP
compatible mode is going to fix this issue. More than likely it'll make Halo
go, "I'm sorry Dave, I only run in Vista." and exit.

Well if the audio is working in the Sound control panel (play a music file
in Windows, go into Sound control panel (just search for Sound in the start
menu) and it should have your speakers selected as the default playback
device and you'll see a little sound metter to the right of the speakers
bouncing to the beat.) Try disabling other sound devices for playback and
recording (right-click and select Disable).

Once just your speakers and one sound input are functioning, try starting
the game again.

Respond here if that doesn't work, POST YOUR SYSTEM SPECS! Were not looking
at your computer, what make is it, what model? If your built it yourself,
what's it made of specifically?

Sorry for yelling, but no one posts their system specs here. it's starting
to get to me.

Re: Halo 2 running fine but no in game sound

Hi all,
My specs are as follows :- Dell XPS 3Ghz Dual Core with GeForce 8800 Running
Vista Home Premium.
Creative SB Audigy SE sound Card
I Reloaded the latest drivers for the Audigy and now have full sound running
with Halo2(when I said everything else is running I meant games and music
files). However I still have to crank all sound to the max to hear anything
- it ain't the speakers, headphones are the same. Damn Vista! on XP with on
board sound card the Volume was fine But with the Audigy out put is so Low.
beginning to wonder now wether it's the sound card! maybe a more expensive
card would work better.
I would never have thought it wouldn't drive the Dell monitor speakers?!?
I have previously tried some of the offered solutions - but it is as though
the line out power from the card is very small

Thanks guys any suggestions - keep 'em coming.
