Play Online

Whenever I try to run playonline, it says that it can't run under my current
operating system: Vista.

But I know a friend who plays FFXI and has Vista and the same type of
computer I have and it runs fine on hers.

I don't know what to do or why it's doing this. Can anyone help me please?

Re: Play Online

So are you trying to use a game called playonline or attempting to play FFXI
(I assume that is Final Fantasy 11) online?

and does it not work at all or the solo campaign works and only online
doesn't work. Can you detail what steps are you doing to get the error
message?

Mark

Re: Play Online

Yes, it is Final Fantasy 11. When I inserted the disc to install it,
PlayOnline installed first and it just stopped at that. I don't think it
actually installed the game itself, just PlayOnline and Tetramaster.

So when I decided I should go check if it did or not by going through
PlayOnline, I got the error stating it doesn't run under the current
Operating System.

I don't know why it didn't install Final Fantasy 11 when it was supposed to
install pretty much everything once I inserted the disc. I really don't
understand and I just got VISTA yesterday and such.

For some reason, I don't think it's picking up that not only do I need to
install PlayOnline but the game itself? I don't know but it's really bugging
me.

Is this detailed enough? I hope it is.

Play Online is like the front end that patches Final Fantasy 11, and a
couple other applications that go with FFXI.

You might want to start from scratch...

Uninstall everything.
Delete old folders with Play Online Files.
Insert CD for installation
Cancel AutoPlay
Open CD icon (right click, select Open)
Look for the Setup Icon. Right-Click on this Icon and choose Properties.
Select Compatibility Tab
Set this page to Win XP SP2 mode, and Run as Administrator (if you can).
Press OK
Double-click on the setup icon to start the installer.

Once you get Play Online going, right-click on the desktop icon and try to
run as administrator, or do what I described above, bring up properties for
the program, choose run as admin and WinXp under compatibility.

Run the program, this should get you to patch the game, and HOPEFULLY the
latest version of Play Online is Vista compatible, and everything should
patch and in about 4-8 hours you should be wandering around Veldant? God
been so long I forget the name.

Another option would be to go to FFXI support website and see if they have
troubleshooting for Vista.

Good luck,
A.

Re: Play Online

Go to playonline.com and download the Vista patch. The game works fine
afterwards.

Dude, I'm flattered, but unfortunatly for us both, I am straight, and I
don't know what I said originally, but I'm glad you got it working.

That's the one thing I remember about FFXI, the insane patch to install the
game. What a hassle. Game was good, but sheesh 3-4 hours or so for the
first download.

Glad you got it working,
