| | Are Geforce 7950s supposed to have DirectX 10? because mine do.... Everywhere I go I keep hearing people say that if you do not have a Geforce 8800 you will not be able to experience the graphic qualities of DirectX 10. Yet I have 2 7950s ussually set to SLI and my dxdiag says that I have DirectX 10. I can't imagine that they would call DirectX 9.0c DirectX 10 on peoples computers. I am also experiencing some weird glitches in computer games that are descriped in a few of the hotfixes for DirectX 10 cards yet it says that these updates don't apply to me. Has my computer somehow fit through one of the cracks and how do I get out because I would take stability and performance over graphics quality anyday. The feeling of paying for 7950s and then they crash in game is not a very good one. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 10/13/2007, 23:08:08 Machine name: USER-FA5CAD3A4C Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.070627-1500) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.9GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 986MB used, 3338MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10 DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 7950 GT DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_C6353842&REV_A1 Display Memory: 1272 MB Dedicated Memory: 504 MB Shared Memory: 767 MB Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (75Hz) Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor Driver Name: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll Driver Version: 7.15.0011.6369 (English) DDI Version: 9Ex Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 9/11/2007 22:28:00, 4988928 bytes WHQL Logo'd: Yes WHQL Date Stamp: Device Identifier: {D7B71E3E-41D5-11CF-1343-3EE601C2CA35} Vendor ID: 0x10DE Device ID: 0x0295 SubSys ID: 0xC6353842 Revision ID: 0x00A1 Revision ID: 0x00A1 DDraw Status: Enabled D3D Status: Enabled AGP Status: Enabled |

| | Re: Are Geforce 7950s supposed to have DirectX 10? because mine do.... Your video card does not support DX10. DXDIAG says you have DX10, because you do. It's installed in Vista. However, it supports lower video cards, they just won't take advantage of DX10 features. You can install an old TNT video card (DX6 I belileve), and it will still show DX10 installed. -- Dustin Harper dharper@xxxxxx http://www.vistarip.com "DemonAts" <DemonAts@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:8C3063C1-B8F9-4486-A595-B02BE08709AA@xxxxxx Quote: > Everywhere I go I keep hearing people say that if you do not have a > Geforce > 8800 you will not be able to experience the graphic qualities of DirectX > 10. > Yet I have 2 7950s ussually set to SLI and my dxdiag says that I have > DirectX > 10. On the ATi side, any card with "2x00 HD" in the model number support DirectX 10 calls. Your computer does not support DirectX 10, but there's only like 5 or 6 games out there that have DirectX 10 support, and all of those games also have DirectX 9 support. In other words, your system is a wonderful DirectX 9 system. The crashes you are getting are probably NOT related to DirectX, but you didn't mention which game you are having problems with, so at this point it's anyones guess as to what problems you are really having. Recommendation: Update video drivers Update sound drivers Update mobo chipset drivers Update mobo BIOS (be careful here) Run latest Windows Update Install DirectX from http://www.microsoft.com/directx (will fix any broken DirectX files) After all that if your game is still crashing, reply here and tell us what game you are having problems with. -A. |
